Description

Participates in the clerical work relative to the registration of voters and preparation for elections; and performs other related duties as required.
 
Note:  This is a full time, temporary position with the possibility of employment until the end of the election season.

Position may be terminated at any time due to failure to perform required job duties.
 

Examples of Duties

The following are examples of duties but are not limited to the following:

  • Registers voters, updates, maintains, and prepares the general county register.
  • Reviews and checks applications for registration, re-registration, and absentee applications for conformance with statutory requirements.
  • Assists and provides information to the public by telephone and over-the-counter relating to voter registration and election inquiries.
  • Participates in the absentee voting process.
  • Assists with recruiting and training of precinct officials
  • Assists candidates running for office with nomination papers and campaign spending forms.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Training and Experience:  A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school and general clerical work experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  General office skills (filing, answering phones, assisting the public, etc.), word processing, typing at the rate of 40 net words per minute; ten key by touch desirable,must be able to communicate and work well with others.

Health and Physical Condition:  Persons seeking appointment to this position must meet the health and physical condition standards deemed necessary and proper for performance of the duties; clean and neat appearance.  Some heavy lifting required.

Travel:  May be required to travel by Ferry or small plane to Molokai or Lanai.

Sick Leave - 14 hours a month
Vacation  Leave - 14 hours a month
Overtime compensation is at the rate of 1&1/2 times the hourly rate of pay

The County of Maui offers a generous benefit package, including the following:

Vacation
Eligible employees earn up to 21 days of vacation per year, with a maximum year-to-year carry over of 90 days. Eligibility to accrue vacation begins with the first work day.

Sick Leave
Eligible employees accumulate up to 21 days of sick leave per year. Eligibility to accrue sick leave begins with the first work day, and there is no limitation on the amount of sick leave that may be accumulated.

These benefits are administered by the Hawaii Employer-Union Health Benefits Trust Fund, and contributions are payroll deducted.

The County observes 13 holidays per year (14 in an election year).

Deferred Compensation Plan
Eligible employees may participate in the Island Savings Plan (a deferred compensation plan as provided under Section 457 of the Internal Revenue Code.) This is a supplemental retirement savings plan that allows for the investment of tax-deferred contributions into a variety of investment options.

Flex Spending Plan
Eligible employees can also participate in the County's Flexible Spending plan, a way to set aside a portion of pay, before taxes, to pay for qualifying dependent care or medical expenses.

Employee Assistance Program
The County also offers a voluntary assistance program which provides its employees and their family members with free professional and confidential assistance in overcoming personal and work related problems.

Training
The County provides its employees with a variety of up-to-date training opportunities (i.e., computer application, professional seminars, heavy equipment operation, administrative & clerical skills, personal safety, etc.) to help them increase their knowledge, gain new skills, and to be more satisfied and effective in their jobs.

Leave Sharing
The County's leave sharing program allows employees to donate accumulated vacation leave credits to a qualified fellow employee who has a serious personal illness or injury.
