Basic Function

Under direction of the Outdoor Programs Coordinator, the Camp Manager supervises daily operations related to day camps in the Lake Parks Division. In addition, the Camp Manager will work cohesively with the Outdoor Programs Coordinator to accomplish division goals.
 

Nature & Scope

Based on the assignment, this position reports to the Outdoor Programs Coordinator or their designated Supervisor.  Duties of this job will include one or more of the following:
 

  1. Supervision of daily operations and implementations of seasonal day camp to ensure needs & interests of participants are met in a safe & quality manner.
  2. Oversee implementation of recreational programs and activities for children k-5th grades.
  3. Assists with program set up, tear down and implementation including working both inside and outside in various locations and conditions.
  4. Provides excellent customer service by responding to questions and needs.
  5. Give direction to staff to accomplish daily camp activities.
  6. Responsible for ensuring all safety protocols and equipment use for all participants and spectators in day camp programs and facilities.
  7. Complete various reports and submits them to the appropriate supervisor. 
  8. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills

Requires a high school diploma or GED and 18 years of age or 2 years fulltime equivalent experience as a RCA I or Instructor .  Prefer applicant pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in parks, recreation, leisure, human development or related field.
 
Candidate must have basic knowledge outdoor recreation skills. Must have good oral communication skills and able to demonstrate excellent customer service skills. Must have physical ability to accomplish job tasks and able to work outdoors as required. Incumbents must pass a criminal background check.
 
Incumbents assigned to the Camp Manager position must have schedules allowing them to work various times and be available during the summer months and some holidays. Must have physical ability to load, move and/or set up tables, chairs and various equipment needed for the camp. Ability to lead/coordinate youth and staff preferred. Creative individuals with various skills in the arts used for program, marketing and event development will also be considered.
 
Must have or obtain American Red Cross  or American Heart Association CPR, First Aid and AED certification before the first week of camp or 1 week before being placed on the work schedule.
 

Hired to temporarily supplement the work force or to assist in the completion of projects. May work short assignments year round with no set schedule. All legally mandated benefits will be extended; however, casual employees are not eligible for City sponsored benefit programs.
