Position Summary

Under direction of the Youth Adventure Coordinator and Special Services Superintendent, will assist with all areas of the Outdoor Adventure Program including trip preparation, camper orientation, leading adventure programs, supervising youth in an outdoor setting, and understanding of risk management as it relates to the field of Outdoor Recreation.

Responsible for assisting the Adventure Coordinator with summer Teen Adventure Camp including, but not limited to, supervising teens in a camp setting, trip preparation, trip clean-up, overnight camping, rock climbing, canoeing, kayaking, rappelling, and backpacking.

In addition to working with the Adventure Camp, this position will be required to submit a written proposal for a Spring Adventure trip for 2019 and present an end of summer report to the Parks and Recreation Staff.
 

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge and experience in the field of Recreation, preferred experience in Outdoor Recreation or Therapeutic Recreation.  Previous experience working with youth and youth with special needs (at-risk), a knowledge of experiential education, facilitation and processing techniques, recreation programming experience, challenge course, and outdoor adventure skills (rock climbing, paddling, backpacking, etc.) OR any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.  Must be at least 18 years of age at time of hire.  Must be looking to fulfill academic credit towards an internship requirement with an accredited university.
 
EMPLOYMENT TESTING:
 
•Employment is contingent on passing post-offer, pre-employment drug testing and criminal background investigations.
 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities


Position requires an in-depth knowledge of outdoor adventure programming.  Must possess oral and written communications skills, work well with teens; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with organization, employees and the general public.
 Knowledge of outdoor recreation, medical first-aid procedures, and recreation risk management principles.

Certification(s)/Licenses Required:
Adult and Pediatric First Aid, CPR and AED certifications required.
Valid Texas Drivers License.
