The Position

The City of Beaverton, recognized as one of the 100 best places to live in America, is seeking an Engineering Construction Inspector to join our site development division team.  This position will inspect private development and related public improvement site work to ensure compliance to engineering specifications and all applicable standards, codes, ordinances, rules, regulations and laws.
 

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Read and interpret construction plans in conjunction with actual construction, consult and advise developers, contractors and engineers of requirements needed to pass inspection
  • Meet with staff and customers to explain engineering requirements and resolve conflicts
  • Manage, oversee, inspect, and document activities on capital improvement projects
  • Write, maintain and file accurate inspection records
  • Communicate effectively with diverse customers
  • Provide excellence in internal and external customer service
  • Support and respect diversity in the workplace
  • Other duties as assigned

The Ideal Candidate

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate's degree in civil engineering technology and three years experience in engineering inspection or a related field; OR
  • High school diploma or GED and five years experience in engineering inspection or related field
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to meet the city's driving standards
  • Ability to pass reference check, background check and drug screen
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • ODOT certifications
  • Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead (CESCL) certification

Compensation

Salary Range: $25.44-$34.10 per hour

Starting salary will be determined depending on relevant work experience. The city pays the full retirement contribution to PERS; provides employees with an opportunity to participate in a deferred compensation retirement plan; and offers excellent health, dental, vision and life insurance coverage. The city also has available a tuition reimbursement program and a public service loan forgiveness program.
