The Department of Public Health is recruiting for Supervising Public Health Nutritionists who supervise the operations of the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program or the Nutrition Program.  Duties include planning, coordinating, and implementing community nutrition programs; supervising nutritionists and other program staff; developing contracts or Memorandums of Understanding and budgets; and monitoring clinic activities to assure efficiency of participants flow.  The list established from this recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies as they occur.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
 
Travel:  Incumbents may be required to travel throughout the County to work in multiple offices within a specified region, such as the High Desert (e.g., Victorville, Barstow) or Low Desert (e.g., 29 Palms, Yucca Valley) areas.  Employees may be required to make provision for transportation; mileage reimbursement is available.
 
License:  At the time of hire, a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced for the individual providing the transportation.

Minimum Requirements

Registration:  Must possess and maintain current registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration as a Registered Dietitian.
 
AND
 
Experience:  Two (2) years of experience as a registered nutritionist/dietitian in a health clinic, hospital, or doctor's office which involved counseling patients on a variety of nutrition topics.
 
Substitution:  A Master's degree in Nutrition or Public Health Nutrition may substitute for up to one (1) year of the required experience.  Note:  For some programs, a Master's degree in Nutrition or Public Health Nutrition is mandated by Public Health program funding sources.  Clearly specify possession of such degree on the Application.

Desired Qualifications

Experience working in a Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program, or in a public health nutrition program is highly desirable.

Supervisory Experience: List each job in which you functioned as a regular, ongoing supervisor (not as backup in case of absence). Specify your position title, agency where employed and dates of employment. Also, provide the following: 1) Number of staff/titles of positions supervised and 2) scope of supervisory responsibility. Example: Supervising Nutritionist, San Bernardino County, 11/11 - 01/15 1) 15 Nutritionists 2) Assigned/reviewed work, advised on work problems, approved leave time, counseled on behavior problems, implemented disciplinary action.

Overseeing Nutrition Education Programs: Describe your experience designing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating nutrition education programs. Be sure to include experience in grant writing, budgeting, monitoring contracts, and interfacing with community organizations.

Technical Assistance/Nutrition Consultation: Describe your experience providing technical assistance and nutrition consultation to professional nutrition staff, grantor agencies/community groups or coalitions, and individual clients.

Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program Experience: Describe your nutritionist experience in a WIC program.
