Dietary Services Manager

The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Dietary Services Manager.  This will be a full time Monday- Friday. The primary duties of this position will be performed at DOC Headquarters' building located in Tumwater, however the incumbent will be required to travel to institutions statewide to ensure appropriate program adherence and consistency.
 
This position will report to the Chief Medical Officer and will provide leadership and direction to nutritional consultation services in DOC.  The Division of Health Services is tasked with providing medically necessary care to offenders housed in the Department of Corrections.  The goal of Health Services are to provide quality health care that is evidenced based, monitor cost of healthcare, and to treat our patients with compassion and respect.

Responsibilities

The Dietary Services Manager oversees nutritional consultation, formulates comprehensive patient nutritional care plans to meet the patient's individual needs using medical, nutritional, and medication intake histories, physical examinations and laboratory data.  This position recommends food or nutritional products consistent with national standards and Agency policies.  
 
Key duties include:

  • Supervises and directs medical nutrition therapy for all DOC facilities. Works closely with medical providers and food services staff, recommends and modifies patient's medical nutrition therapy.
  • Provides nutritional care on a regular basis to offenders (assesses, evaluates, recommends modified/therapeutic diets and/or tube feedings.
  • Responsible for patient education regarding nutrition and modified diets.
  • Practices in accordance with DOC policy and the Offender Health Plan.
  • Completes investigations, answers grievances, and if necessary testifies for lawsuits.

Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree involving major study in dietetics, food and nutrition, or  food service administration from an accredited college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and Council for Higher Education (CHEA) or equivalent education/experience can be substituted.

Completion of Academy of Nutrition and Dietetic approved dietetic educational program.
 
AND

Two (2) years of full time experience as a registered dietician.
 
AND
 
Must possess or have the ability to obtain prior to hire an unencumbered Certification of Washington State DOH as a dietician.
 
Proficient using computer based programs to schedule, monitor and track patient information, perform data entry and word processing, and communicate by e-mail as well as other programs that may be needed to complete assigned work.

Retirement and Deferred Compensation
