Position Objectives:

Semiskilled work repairing and maintaining mechanical equipment, irrigation systems, City facilities, parks and grounds, streets, right of ways, storm drainage and dune crossovers.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operates backhoe/loader, tractor, and bobcat.
  • Mows, trims and edges right of ways, City parks and other facilities as needed.
  • Assists with repairing potholes, sidewalks, catch basins, and storm drainage system repairs.
  • Performs routine irrigation system maintenance and provides watering and maintenance for tree projects.
  • Performs nursery maintenance, weeding, assists with tree installations, landscaping and mulching.
  • Operates and maintains vehicles, machines, power and hand tools.
  • Builds and maintains playground, recreation, ball fields and beach access facilities.
  • Performs janitorial duties for City facilities.
  • Performs other related work as required.

Desirable Training and Experience:

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma from a recognized institution or General Education Degree (GED) from a State of Florida/Department of Education accredited institution and one year related experience.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Requires a valid Florida Drivers’ License.
