JOB SUMMARY
 
This as-needed on call position transports residents, Senior Citizens, City officials and others to and from scheduled activities and/or appointments.   Operates shuttle bus service for the City following established routes and schedules.  Reports to the Transit Supervisor, or designee. The van/bus driver pool supports the Transportation division for any planned and unplanned absences or other staffing needs. Minimum availability of two shifts 6:30 am to 1pm and 12:30 pm to 7pm on shuttle route. Must also be able to work a variety of shifts including days, nights, weekends and holidays for Community Events.

Position Duties and Responsibilities

Drives and operates bus to transport residents within the City of Miramar.  Drives handicapped-accessible bus for fixed and non-fixed passenger route.   Assists handicapped and senior passengers in embarking and disembarking vehicles. 
 
Transports department program participants, City officials, residents and guests, etc., as required for various events.
 
Performs daily pre- and post-trip inspections on vehicles.  Maintains various logs, checklists, etc.
 
Assists in program activities as required.
 
Interacts and communicates with immediate supervisor, other departmental supervisors and employees, other City personnel, clients/passengers, and the general public.
 
 
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
 
Performs general housekeeping and light maintenance work as required.
 
Maintains fueling and cleaning of transportation vehicles and reports problems to supervisor.

Position Requirements/Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
 
Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by driving training and/or experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.  Must possess a valid state class "B" CDL driver's license with passenger endorsement and an approved Florida Department of Transportation Medical Examination Report for Bus Transit System Driver.  Must obtain First Aid and CPR certifications. Employee will be subjected to a level I and level II background screening, and random drug and alcohol testing.
