Basic Function

The Assistant Pool Manager assists with supervising operations related to maintenance, aquatic programs, special events and aquatic personnel of the designated aquatic facility. In addition, the Assistant Pool Manager will work cohesively with both the Pool Manager and Aquatic Coordinator to develop the strategies leading to the accomplishment of division goals.

Nature & Scope

1.  Ensure the personal safety of the facility users by enforcing all rules and regulations.
 
2.  Assist in maintaining the aquatic facility and surrounding area.
 
3.  Responsible for collection of fees, preparation of bank deposits and departmental records and reports.
 
4.  Assist with regular in-service training, evaluate and give instructions to lifeguards to improve techniques and perform skill audits.
 
5.  Supervise and give direction to the lifeguarding staff to accomplish daily goals and objectives (staff may range in number from 4 to 15).
 
6.  Determine and enforce safety measures in and around the pool.
 
7.  Supervise the activities of subordinates and give direction to them to accomplish departmental objectives.
 
8.  Cover various management shifts at the city's aquatic facilities.

9.  Performs other related duties as assigned.
 

Required Skills

Must obtain initial American Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR, AED and First Aid certification prior to date of hire. One summer season as a Lifeguard or equivalent experience preferred. Equivalent experience may include water safety instructors, swim lesson coordinators or positions that involve supervising, teaching, training and/or managing large groups of young people typically ages 15- 21. Previous experience working in an aquatic setting is preferred.
Lifeguard Instructor certification preferred.  Re-certifications may be obtained after being hired for the job and must be maintained while employed in the job.
Requires effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to make sound decisions in an emergency situation; ability to deal effectively with the public and possess an outstanding customer service attitude. Minimum age 17.
Individuals hired prior to the opening of the outdoor pool season will be required to attend, obtain and maintain a Food Manager certificate. Those individuals hired at Dove Pool after the pool is open will be required to obtain and maintain a Food Manager certificate.
 
 

Hired to work as the need arises. Work schedule could be up to 40 hours per week, but the duration of employment shall be no more than six (6) months. No City sponsored benefits will be extended to temporary employees. However, all legally mandated benefits will be extended to temporary employees.
