Definition

This is an entry-level, professional staff, full-time position in the Missouri City Fire and Rescue Services Department. An individual in this position will protect life and property by fighting fires, respond to emergency incidents, use Emergency Medical Services (EMS) skills, and engage in public education, station and equipment maintenance activities as directed and according to departmental initiatives that results in excellent service delivery consistent with a High-Performing Organization (HPO).

Examples of Work

• Respond to emergency incidents; perform firefighting, rescue and may deliver emergency medical services; document emergency services delivery and related incidents;

• Perform minor maintenance to fire station and grounds; complete station maintenance work requests; perform lawn care and cleaning of station contents;

• Assist with daily apparatus inspections and apparatus readiness; perform minor equipment and apparatus repairs and/or maintenance; complete required documentation and reports;

• Provide tours of a fire-station and/or apparatus; deliver fire prevention and safety presentations to the public; conduct pre-fire planning of commercial and industrial occupancies; conduct courtesy home fire safety inspections; and conduct courtesy home fire smoke detector inspections, installation and maintenance;

• Attend and complete related training; assist with company level training; participate in required departmental training; participate in additional training and education opportunities; maintain established continuing education requirements to retain certifications; assist with employee development; and assist the training division as needed;

• Provide input, feedback, research, and manpower as needed to assure the department is providing the best service possible to the public;

• Maintain continuous awareness, adherence and compliance with City and Department policies and procedures;

• Maintain personal physical fitness and participate in on-duty physical fitness activities;

• Perform other related duties as assigned;

• Subject to 24 hour recall.

Education, Experience, or Certification

High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Certificate and Basic Firefighter from the Texas Commission on Fire Protection or currently attending a Texas Commission on Fire Protection Fire Academy and Basic EMT by the Texas Department of State Health Services or National Registry are required. Paramedic Certification desired.

The MCFRSD may apply/consider credentialing from agencies such as the State of Texas Fire Commission and the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) via established reciprocal processes.
