Description of Duties/Essential Functions

Under the direction of the Home Administrator, this position is responsible for the facility medical program.  This position is responsible for the development and implementation of the facility medical operations, ensuring that services meet applicable standards set by the State and Federal government; reviews all policies and procedures with the Administrator prior to implementation; responsible for the supervision of all facility physicians, whether on staff or contractual employees; ensures adequate staffing is maintained; assists in developing and implementing necessary training for the medical and nursing staff; participates on various facility committees which require medical decisions or directions; acts as a liaison with State and Federal Inspection teams that make periodic visits to the facility, coordinating the actual inspections with other facility staff.
 

Minimum Requirements

Requires an Illinois license to practice medicine and American Specialty Board Certification, or its equivalent, in Internal Medicine. Equivalence to Board Certification is determined by the Director of Central Management Services with the advice of the employing agency's director.
 
Requires a minimum of two years of experience practice in Internal Medicine.  Prefers the candidate to have extensive experience with the geriatric population and psychiatry.
