This recruitment will be used to fill regular Medical Assistant positions throughout the Health Department.

What is the Role of the Medical Assistant (MA)?
MA's assist care providers to ensure the delivery of high quality patient care and treatment at the clinics. They interact with patients both in person and by phone, to perform simple procedures/treatments and all duties in a manner which promotes team concepts and reflects the mission and values of the Multnomah County Health Department.

Minimum Qualifications/Transferable Skills:

  • Experience/Training - Requires graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant training program.
  • Certification through a nationally recognized Medical Assistant Certification program, such as AAMA, AMT, NCCT, CCMA
  • Certification - CPR certification is required (valid CPR certification must be provided upon hire).

Knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of clinic patient care.
  • Knowledge of principles, and procedures of recordkeeping and reporting.
  • Ability to make observations concerning patients' general health conditions.
  • Ability to take and record vital signs and perform assigned laboratory tests.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing. 

Screening and Evaluation

 The Selection Process: We expect to evaluate candidates as follows:
  1. Application review: We will review the education and work experience sections of the applications to identify the candidates who meet the minimum qualifications as stated in this announcement. We may conduct a more thorough review of all remaining applications to identify the most qualified candidates.
  2. Supplemental question review: Your responses will be provided to a team of subject matter experts. Respond to each of the questions individually and completely, while explaining related experience and training (paid or unpaid). 
  3. Phone screen.
  4. Oral exam: A scored interview.
  5. Consideration of top candidates: We will consider qualified candidates in order of rank and score from the list of eligible candidates. This may include panel interview(s), a hiring interview, and/or additional testing to determine the best candidates for a position.
  6. Background check and reference checks: All finalists must pass a thorough background and reference check.

Additional Information

Type of Position: This hourly union-represented position is eligible for overtime.
