Los Angeles Superior Court is the largest unified trial court system in the United States with nearly 600 courtrooms presided over by 580 bench officers and 4,500 full-time employees.  The Court has 38 Court locations, serving 88 cities and 118 law enforcement agencies countywide.

The Court is now accepting applications for SPRING 2018 Judicial Externship positions. The Court offers externships in the following areas of law: civil, criminal, probate, family, mental health, and dependency/juvenile. Externs' duties vary but may include interacting with their assigned judicial officers, participating in the drafting of bench memoranda, as well as participating in the handling of special court-related projects. Externs also have the opportunity to observe trials and hearings. 


SELECTION REQUIREMENTS:
 
To qualify, you must meet the following requirements:

Currently enrolled in an ABA accredited law school.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION

In addition to the completed online application, applicants are also required to attach the following materials:
  • A resume
  • Current law school transcript (submission of unofficial transcript is permitted)
  • Writing sample (i.e., drafted pleading, legal publication, bench memorandum, etc.)

Applications that do not include all required documents will be deemed incomplete and will be rejected accordingly.  Please be advised that a resume will not substitute for a fully completed application.  Further, all candidates will be required to complete a security clearance and must undergo a Live Scan background check.

The Court will evaluate your education, training, and experience as reflected in your completed application and other required documentation.
