For evaluation purposes, acceptable qualifying experience for all positions must have been in a paid capacity unless noted otherwise in the minimum qualifications for the posted position.

Additionally, 30+ hours per week will be counted as full-time employment and will receive full credit for the amount of time employed.  A minimum of 15 through 29 work hours per week will be counted as part-time employment and will receive half credit for the amount of time employed.

Minimum Qualifications

LICENSE(S) and/or CERTIFICATION(S):

  • Valid driver's license with good driving record.
  • State of Texas Journeyman Electrician's License.
  • Some positions may require a valid Texas Class A or B Commercial Driver's License.

OTHER REQUIREMENT(S):
  • May be subject to evening and weekend shifts.
  • May be subject to inclement weather conditions.
  • May be subject to twenty-four (24) hour emergency call outs.

Aviation: Must pass FAA and TSA background investigations. Requires long periods of standing, climbing, bending, stooping and lifting fifty (50) pounds or more.  May be subjected to working in inclement weather.  Must be available to work various shifts.  Per FAA Advisory Circular150/5210-20, selected candidate must be able to demonstrate a functional knowledge of the English language. 

Equipment and Building Services: Responsible for maintaining the supply, delivery of electricity and repair of equipment. Must be able to operate bucket trucks and man lifts up to sixty (60) feet. May be required to obtain a Texas Class B CDL. Motor control and Variable Frequency Drive (VFD), commercial work and high voltage experience a plus.

Park & Recreation: Responsible for maintaining the supply and delivery of electricity, installation and repair of equipment to city buildings, athletic field lighting systems, security lighting systems, swimming pools, and display fountains throughout the entire city. Must have the ability to follow written and oral instructions, inclement working conditions, may be required to climb poles of heights up to seventy (70) feet for lengthy periods in strenuous positions, and must be able to operator a bucket truck. May be required to have a Texas Class A CDL.

Dallas Water Utilities: Requires high voltage electrical experience (480v or higher) and knowledge of Industrial Electrical processes (i.e. power distribution, motor controls, lighting, etc.) Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) and computer skills are a plus. Must have own transportation and is subject to inclement weather and twenty-four (24) hour emergency call.

Street Services: Requires a valid Texas Class A CDL. Traffic signal experience a plus.
