Description

Under general supervision, coordinates and monitors the progress of office automation projects including vSphere virtualization, Microsoft Active Directory, Office 365, Windows Server platforms from original analysis through final implementation. Performs high level systems analysis and provides technical assistance to other technical resources supporting and coordinating related responsibilities and tasks of the Server and Desktop Support Services section of the Information Technology Services Department.

The Office Systems Support Analyst I (OSSA I) is the entry level into this series responsible for systems analysis and providing technical assistance to other office systems positions to support multiple user departments and agencies. The OSSA I holds primary responsibility for interfacing with user departments to establish the appropriate objectives for developing network strategies, as needed for those departments. It is also the primary interface with network consultants, hardware and software network vendors.

The OSSA II is the journey level for the series and has responsibility for directing all facets of a project, which, in itself, may encompass several systems and/or user departments. The OSSA II performs high level systems analysis and provides technical assistance to other technical resources supporting and coordinating related responsibilities and tasks of the assigned customer support team and/or the Server and Desktop Support Services section of the Information Technology Services Department (IT Services), Application Services Division and/or Technical Services Division. This classification holds primary responsibility for interfacing with customer departments to establish the appropriate objectives for developing new, or enhancing existing, personal business computer-based office systems.

The ideal candidate will have considerable recent experience with VMWare vSphere, vSAN technology, Cloud Services, Active Directory 2012/2016, PowerShell, PowerCLI, Systems Automation to include virtual machine deployment, Security experience, multi-factor authentication and customer service. Recent experience with virtual machine backup technologies, Network Appliances and DNS. Experience with multiple operating systems, hosting database in a virtual environment, and vSphere replication or the use of a third party product to replicate environments to alter location (e.g. Zerto) is highly desirable.

APPROXIMATE SALARY
Office Systems Support Analyst I: $33.59 - $44.66 per hour
Office Systems Support Analyst II: $37.15 - $51.57 per hour

The Office Systems Support Analyst I/II is represented by the Service Employees International Union and is eligible for overtime compensation. Some positions may be eligible for educational incentive of 2.5%, 3.5% or 5% based on completion of an Associate's, Bachelor's, or Master's degree that is not required for the classification.

NOTE: If appointed at the lower level, incumbents may be promoted to the higher level without further examination upon meeting the minimum requirements, demonstrating satisfactory performance, and in accordance with the business needs of the department. 

Examples Of Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Develop strategic direction, perform capacity planning, and implement industry best practices for the vSphere virtualization platform in support of services supplied to IT Services customers.
  • Evaluate and recommend upgrades or new technologies to maintain systems current with technology developments.
  • Interfaces with vendors and consultants on the analysis and evaluation of new products and services to make recommendations which ensure the successful installation of systems network equipment.
  • Provide technical and project leadership in support of the vSphere virtualization platform, including mentoring of technical staff and resolving problems in conjunction with other resources.
  • Communicate verbally and in writing project status reports to management on progress for assigned tasks and projects using standard templates and/or work management systems.
  • Troubleshoot network system outages and effectively use vendor support to expedite troubleshooting and resolution.
  • Support user accounts, security groups, and group policies within Active Directory and supported applications.
  • Install and configure new physical and virtual servers to support application requirements.
  • Provide server maintenance and support through upgrades, patches, troubleshooting, and retirement to meet business needs and minimize impact to business processes. 
  • May serve as lead in meetings in cross-functional teams responsible for the design, development, and implementation of network systems and supporting infrastructure to collaborate on projects.
  • Perform audits, license purchases, renewals and ordering of hardware and software to maintain accurate inventory of licenses.
  • Monitor assigned service requests/incidents to accept, troubleshoot, resolve, and escalate tickets consistent with departmental policies in order to meet service level commitments.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Additional OSSA II duties:
  • May serve as lead when in meetings with supervisors and co-workers or in cross-functional teams responsible for the design, development, and implementation of network systems and supporting infrastructure to collaborate on projects.
  • Provide technical and project leadership in support of assigned platforms including mentoring of technical staff and resolving problems in conjunction with other resources.

Typical Qualifications

These are entrance requirements to the examination process and assure neither continuance in the process nor placement on an eligible list.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
Level I
Some experience in systems networking which has led to the acquisition of the required knowledge and abilities with specific experience with personal computers, servers and the analysis and design of local area networks.

The required knowledge and abilities also can be obtained by high school and/or college coursework in local area network installations and analysis of computer systems, at least three (3) years of experience working with personal computers and servers and a minimum of one (1) year of analysis and design of local area networks.

Level II:
Any combination of education/training/experience which has led to the acquisition of the above knowledge, skills, and abilities with specific experience with personal computers, servers and the analysis and design of local area networks.

The required knowledge and abilities also can be obtained by high school and/or college coursework in local area network installations and analysis of computer systems, at least four (4)years of experience working with personal computers and servers and a minimum of two (2) years of analysis and design of local area networks OR one (1) year as an Office Systems Support Analyst I with the County of Ventura.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of a valid California driver license
Five (5) or more years of recent experience supporting:
  •  Virtualized Environment
Three (3) or more years of recent experience with the following:
  • PowerCLI interface
  • Developing and maintaining PowerShell script
Two (2) or more years of recent experience managing the following:
  • Platforms/servers in a cloud environment
DESIRED
  • vSphere replication or the use of a third party product to replicate environments to alternate location (e.g. Zerto)
  • Experience hosting databases in a virtual environment
  • Multiple operating systems experience (e.g. Windows 2012/2016, RHEL, CentOS)
  • Experience Managing Active Directory
Supplemental Information:
May be required to travel within the county to trouble shoot or restart computers; work nights, weekends, and holidays on an on-call basis; lift or move equipment for diagnosis or repair; work under raised floors to check computer connections and cables; lift up to 52 lbs.

10 PAID HOLIDAYS: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and one 8-hour floating holiday. Holiday time is pro-rated for permanent part-time employees.
 
PAID VACATION: 14 days earned each year, increasing in increments after 5 years of service to 24 days per year after 15 years of service. You may accumulate up to 400 hours. You may redeem a portion of the accrual annually, after 10 years of service. You will be paid the value of your accrued credits upon retirement or termination. Earned vacation hours are pro-rated for permanent part-time employees.
 
PAID SICK LEAVE: 80.08 hours earned per year. You may accrue up to 800 hours and will be reimbursed annually for 25% of the number of hours over the maximum. A cash payment of 25% of unused hours will be made if you retire or terminate with more than 10 years of service. Earned sick leave hours are pro-rated for permanent part-time employees.
 
MILEAGE REIMBURSEMENT: You receive mileage reimbursement at the standard rate established by the Internal Revenue Service for each mile driven on County business.
 
UNIFORM PROVIDED: The County will provide uniforms or uniform allowance when required.
 
TEXTBOOK AND TUITION: When courses have been satisfactorily completed, the County will reimburse you to a maximum of $900 per fiscal year for tuition and books for off-duty, job-related courses. Other maximums apply to Exempt employees, Nursing Care Coordinators, and Clinical Coordinators. This benefit is prorated for part-time employees.
 
EDUCATIONAL INCENTIVE: The County may provide up to a 5% incentive pay for educational attainment if not specifically required by your job. You may only receive one form of incentive pay or premium pay and will receive that which provides the greatest incentive.
 
DEFERRED COMPENSATION PROGRAM: You may choose to contribute to one or both of the County's deferred compensation plans (established under Internal Revenue Code Sections 401(k) and 457). If you participate in the County sponsored 401(k) plan, the County will match a part of your contribution up to 1.75% of your salary, on a pay period basis. You must be regularly scheduled to work at least 40 hours each pay period to be eligible to participate in the 401(k) plan. These plans enable you to build long-term savings while deferring current federal and state income taxes. In addition to pre-tax contributions, you are also able to make after-tax contributions through the Roth option available in the 457 plan.
 
RETIREMENT/SOCIAL SECURITY: Both the County and you contribute to the County's Retirement Plan and Social Security. The County picks up part of your retirement and Social Security contribution. Benefits vest after 5 years. Compensation for retirement purposes includes all cash compensation excluding overtime, plus Flexible Benefits contribution and retirement contribution pick up. Employees hired to work less than 64 hours biweekly participate in a Safe Harbor retirement plan in lieu of VCERA and Social Security.
 
STATE DISABILITY INSURANCE (SDI):   This program provides weekly benefits in the event of short term disability. Premiums are automatically deducted from your pay.
 
OPTIONAL WAGE SUPPLEMENT PLAN: You may purchase short-term disability coverage in weekly benefit amounts of $45 or $80. You must be regularly scheduled to work 40 hours or more each pay period to participate, and must enroll within 90 days of employment).
 
DEATH BENEFIT: Your department will provide a $1,000 death benefit payable to your designated beneficiary in the event of your death if you are enrolled in the Flexible Benefits Program.
 
OPTIONAL GROUP LIFE INSURANCE: If you are a regular County employee with a regular work schedule of at least 40 hours per pay period you may purchase term life insurance coverage for either $10,000 or one times your annual base salary, without evidence of insurability, if you enroll within your first 90 days of eligibility. You may also be eligible to purchase term life insurance at group rates for two or three times your annual salary, subject to evidence of insurability. Dependents life insurance is also available for employees who purchase optional life insurance coverage.
 
OTHER BENEFITS: The County also offers an Employee Assistance Program, a Wellness Program, and a Work/Family Program which includes child care and elder care referrals.
