Job Responsibilities

This position is located within the Division of Facilities Management and Property Services. The incumbent will provide technical services to support Facilities Management (FM) in the maintenance of building equipment. Performs maintenance inspections, troubleshoots and repairs on boiler, boiler controls, condensate pump, deaerators, valves, steam piping system and other mechanical equipment. Conducts system reviews by completing monthly record logs showing the operating conditions of the equipment. Performs immediate repairs as required on faulty equipment in all FM owned and contracted facilities. Responds to internal service requests for immediately required repairs identified by FM staff. Keeps supervision informed about the current condition of building equipment in all FM owned and contracted facilities. Performs other duties as required.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A high school diploma or equivalent and three (3) years of experience working on commercial boiler and related equipment. 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess a valid South Carolina Class "D" driver's license. Must be able to bend, stoop, crouch, kneel and stand for long periods of time. Must be able to climb and work from ladders, stairs, and scaffolding. Must have the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Must be able to work in confined spaces; hot, hazardous and noisy locations; and in adverse weather conditions. Position requires 37.5 hours per week and is subject to 24 hours per day off-duty calls. Position may require incumbent to work evenings and/or weekends. Position requires participation in the on-call program on a rotating basis. Incumbent may be required to report to work during emergency or hazardous weather situations. Applicants indicating college credit or degree(s) on the application will be required to bring a copy of college transcript to the interview.  A copy of the transcript may also be uploaded as an attachment to the application, if required by the hiring department or if desired by the applicant.  Please note that some areas  of the Department may require an official, certified copy of the transcript prior to hiring or within a specific timeframe required by that area, after hiring.
