Nature of Work

This is journey level skilled technical work providing maintenance and repairs to heavy motor equipment.

Work involves supervising, diagnosing, and participating in performing preventive maintenance, inspection and repairs to all types of heavy motor equipment with a variety of gasoline and diesel engines. Responsible for the requisition of parts and equipment for repair. These repairs include major overhauls, complex repair assignments, engine tune-ups, adjustments and repairs to brake, exhaust and transmission systems; troubleshooting and repairing drivability problems, including electronic engine control systems, ignitions, carburetors, heating and air conditioning systems, and the like; installing special equipment; operating a wrecker; and checking equipment for safety and routine maintenance. Work is performed under general supervision.

 

Minimum Training and Experience

Graduation from high school and/or trade school with training in automotive or diesel engine repairs and technology, skill training in the use of repair facility machinery (grinders, lathe, head blaster, etc.) with four years of experience in performing heavy equipment mechanical repair and maintenance; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
 

Other Necessary Qualifications

This is a 2nd shift position working from 3:30 pm to Midnight.

Possession of a valid Michigan Commercial Driver's License, Class A with an N Endorsement OR the ability to obtain one within the six (6) month probationary period.
 
The Civil Service board test may be waived if applicable State or ASE certification requirements are met.

THIS IS A SAFETY-SENSITIVE POSITION SUBJECT TO THE DEPT OF TRANSPORTATION (DOT) RANDOM DRUG & ALCOHOL TESTING PROGRAM. A DOT WAIVER FORM MUST BE COMPLETED WHEN AN APPLICATION IS SUBMITTED.
