Basic Function

The incumbent is responsible for repair and maintenance of wastewater treatment plant equipment, electrical, and associated systems and equipment. May be required to perform plant-operating duties as directed. May be required to perform maintenance activities at the water treatment plant when needed.

Nature & Scope

The incumbent diagnoses defective operations and excessive wear on equipment parts and components. Performs preventative maintenance and repairs on equipment. The incumbent will report to the Lift Station Supervisor. Daily duties include:
 
1.         Diagnoses, troubleshoots and repairs wastewater plant equipment.
 
2.         Performs general custodial duties such as vacuuming, mopping, removing trash and restroom sanitation.
 
3.         Maintains a schedule and performs preventive maintenance of systems at wastewater plant and facilities.
 
4.         Maintains records of supplies, parts, and materials used.
 
5.         Maintains operational equipment at the wastewater plant to include plumbing, electrical and pumping equipment.
 
6.         Purchases equipment, materials and parts to keep plant in operation.
 
7.         Performs the functions listed above at the water treatment plant as needed.
 
8.         Performs other duties as required.

Required Skills

Requires High School Diploma or GED.
Must have one year experience in operation and maintenance/repair of wastewater treatment plant equipment and be knowledgeable of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations; or one year of related experience maintaining and repairing centrifugal pumps, submergible pumps, industrial pump starting equipment, hydraulics and positive displacement pump operation.
 
Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and drawings, and interpret electrical and electronics schematics.

Requires the ability to drive a light duty truck, lift a minimum of 55 pounds. Maintain regular and punctual attendance.

Must be able to obtain Class C Wastewater Treatment License issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) within 18 months of employment.

Incumbent must pass a criminal history background investigation and have a valid Texas driver's license with a good driving record as defined by City policy.

Regular full-time employees are assigned to work at least 40 hours per week, and are eligible for the City's benefit package, subject to the conditions and limitations of each program.
