Description

The City of Coconut Creek Internship Program is recruiting for intern candidates for various department needs. NOTE: Qualified applicants will be reviewed in the order in which they were received, on an as-needed basis, until each position is filled.
 
Salary: $8.50 per hour
Hours of Work: Monday through Thursday 7:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M..; Days and hours are subject to change depending on needs of the specific department.

GENERAL PURPOSE: 
The purpose of the Coconut Creek Internship Program is to strengthen relationships between educators and the City of Coconut Creek while assisting students in applying classroom theory in a work environment.
 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The essential functions, as outlined in each attached description, is intended to be a representative of the tasks performed within each classification.  It is not necessarily descriptive of any one position in the classification.  The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed if such functions are a logical assignment to the position.
 
Examples of Essential Functions:

This internship is designed to be both educational and practical. In this position, the intern will learn how to take skills he or she may have acquired in school related to his or her particular areas of interest, and apply them in a professional setting. He or she will gain a better understanding of the role that can play in a municipal setting.

 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • Enrolled as a degree-seeking student by an accredited local college or technical school carrying at least a half-time academic course load
  • Applicant must have a valid driver license

Supplemental Information

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Depending on functional area of assignment, tasks involve the periodic performance of moderately physically demanding work, usually involving lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (up to 20 pounds). Tasks that require moving objects of significant weight require the assistance of another person and/or use of proper techniques and moving equipment. Tasks may involve some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station and extended periods of time standing and/or walking.
 
 
ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

Tasks are  regularly performed inside and/or outside with potential for exposure to adverse conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, fumes and/or poor ventilation, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature, and noise extremes, machinery and/or moving vehicles, vibrations, electric currents, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, gases or chemicals, oils and other cutting fluids, violence and/or disease, or pathogenic substances.
 
SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Some tasks require manual dexterity, in addition to visual and hearing acuity. Some tasks may involve identifying and distinguishing colors.
 

APPLICANT SELECTED FOR HIRE MAY BE REQUIRED TO SUCCESSFULLY PASS PHYSICAL, DRUG TESTING, AND BACKGROUND CHECK.
