Job Responsibilities

Independently supervises and coordinates the daily operations of the Quality Assurance Unit of Structural Design Support. This includes providing design review services for Regional Production Groups and their consultants, District personnel, and other areas of the Department. Reviews and approves comments generated by the Structural Design Quality Assurance Unit relevant to structural design plans, drawings and reports. Facilitates communication with the designer until all comments are satisfactorily resolved. Manages the manpower, workload, and resources of the Structural Design Quality Assurance unit. Prepares scope of services, man-hour estimates, and negotiates contracts for outsourcing of design reviews. Reviews consultants deliverables, prepares consultant evaluations, and reviews and approves consultant invoices for payment. Independently coordinates with Preconstruction Support, Regional Production Groups, other areas of the Department, Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), and Consultants to resolve structural design issues related to Quality Assurance reviews. Assists with the evaluation of Department structural policies and procedures and new structural products. Serves as Structural Design Support Engineer in his/her absence. Assists the Legal Section by providing documentation and testimony as needed. Performs other related engineering duties as required.
 

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A bachelor's degree in engineering and six (6) years of engineering work experience, which must include journey-level engineering work experience and one (1) year of experience in a technical supervisory capacity. Requires registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in the State of SC as prescribed in SC State Code Sections 40-22-20 and 40-22-30.
