Description

This is an entry level position and requires minimum experience. However, applicants should be mechanically inclined with some experience working/repairing machinery.

**The Utility Plant position has an end date of June 2019 and will be reevaluated at that time**

Examples of Work

Operate high-pressure boilers and chillers. Operate pumps, compressors, water softeners, generators and other related auxiliary equipment. Responsible for safety and sanitation of the plant. Responsible for accurate recording and hourly checks of all plant equipment. Perform water testings and adjust chemical dosage as required by test results. Responsible for key and tool control at the plant. Must be able to navigate ladders, shoveling, lifting and able to perform minimal manual labor.

Qualifications / Requirements

REQUIREMENTS: Training and/or experience in boiler maintenance, operations and repair.

PREFERRED: Previous safety, sanitation and/or supervisory experience.

OTHER: Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical exam, and at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid Nebraska Corrections Training Program.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Must have the ability to communicate orally and in writing. Knowledge of: the standard operation, maintenance, and repair of boilers and related equipment; the occupational hazards and safety precautions of power plant operations; preventative maintenance procedures used in power plant operations; power plant policies and procedures; safe use of fertilizers, insecticides, and herbicides, as necessary the standard practices, tools, equipment, and materials associated with grounds maintenance and building and mechanical trades. Ability to: perform semi-skilled maintenance and repair of boilers and related equipment; operate boilers and related equipment in a safe manner; troubleshoot and identify problems and to recommend a possible course of corrective action; use/operate hand and power tools and equipment in a safe manner work in adverse conditions including high temperatures and confined spaces; understand and follow instructions.
