Description

This position is responsible for performing basic surveying duties as a member of the Storm water survey crew. The incumbent will assist setting up and operating survey equipment such as total stations, survey grade GPS units, and other related instruments to acquire accurate survey data.

Examples of Duties

Assists in the operation of all types of survey equipment including electronic total station with data collect, or automatic level instrument and other survey tools; assists in the field to establish control points, boundaries, construction staking and topography; clears brush; travels between points and sets survey domes as control monuments; assists in performing construction design layout surveys, including calculating grades, plotting cross sections and road grade profiles, determining elevations and setting stakes in the field; assists in setting control point offsets; assists in locating project design center lines and flagging for view; maintains equipment and inventory on survey trucks; maintains brush clearing implements; stock survey truck with necessary materials and tools; assists in performing administrative support functions facilitation survey work; performs general office duties when required; operates photocopier and other office equipment; assists in land records research; assists in researching deeds, plats and tax records to compare with field found evidence; performs related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or GED equivalency preferred.
 
Three years experience as a Survey Instrument Technician performing related duties.
 
Possession of a valid Georgia Driver's License.
 
An equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for the position may be considered.

Knowledge, Skill, Abilities/ Supplemental Information

Knowledge of basic terminology, methods, practices and techniques of land surveying and GIS data collection; knowledge of general safety rules and procedures in performing surveying and storm water related activities; skill in oral and written communications; skill in reading maps and plats; skill in use of related survey equipment including robotic total stations, survey grade GPS units, tablets, cameras, distance meters, levels, data collectors, programmable calculators, radios and various land clearing and hand tools; skill in performing accurate mathematical calculations.

Annual Leave

Annual Leave (vacation) is earned as follows:

  • 0 months – 5 years: 10 days per year
  • 6 years – 15 years: 15 days per year
  • 16 years – 20 years: 20 days per year
  • 21 years and over: 23 days per year

Sick Leave is earned at the rate of one day per month for a total of 12 days per year.

Employees receive nine paid holidays per year.

Insurance benefits are offered to employees working over 32 hours per week.

New employees are eligible for insurance coverage on the first day of the month following one full month of employment.
