Purpose of Position:
The Position will supervise JPO staff and participate in caseload management of clients to ensure compliance with court orders and intervention efforts. Responsibilities also include a variety of routine duties that range from law enforcement responses, community resource management and referral, courtroom testimony, reporting writing and investigating, as well as advocating for client services, employment and housing. The incumbent will serve and support clients and their families in a responsive community-based system of care that is client-centered, family-focused, and culturally competent. Duties include utilization of intermediate and graduated sanctions. The incumbent will ensure the implementation and compliance of policy and procedures.

This position is a Pay Band 75.  

Classification Description

Juvenile Probation Parole Officer Supervisor

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in sociology, psychology, corrections, guidance and counseling, social work, police science, criminal justice, juvenile justice, education, or public administration and two (2) years of experience as a Probation Parole Officer; in a correctional setting; case management; mental health; counseling; or working directly with at-risk youth. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
 
Employment Requirements:
Employment is subject to a pre-employment background investigation and is conditional pending results. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.
 
Statutory Requirements:
Assignment as a Juvenile Probation Parole Officer in Juvenile Justice Division must be in accordance to 32A-2-2 NMSA Annotated 1978, Juvenile Probation and Parole Services.

Working Conditions:
Work is performed in an office setting, client's homes, and institutions with potential risk from offenders who are possibly under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or otherwise distressed. Late hours, weekend and callback work may be required. Will be exposed to regular periods of video display terminal and keyboard usage and stressful situations. Some travel may be required. The following conditions are also applicable:
  • Incumbents must have a telephone and must be willing to give this phone number to the Director of Field Services.
  • Incumbents must possess and maintain a valid driver's license at all times.
  • Incumbents must be willing to be frequently on-call 24 hours a day. Work is in an office setting, client's homes and institutions.
  • Incumbents must be willing to travel, and be willing to work shifts, holidays, weekends and call back for emergencies.
  • Incumbents must be willing to work with offenders that have high-risk behaviors and require intervention or services.
  • Incumbents must be willing to work with potential risk from offenders who are possibly under the influence of drugs or alcohol or otherwise distressed.
