Description

Under general supervision, the position maintains and cleans City buildings and facilities.  Employees in this classification perform manual labor work.  Performs related work as directed.

Examples of Duties

  • Drives/operates facilities maintenance equipment such as street sweepers, dump trucks, back-hoes, mowers, and related equipment.
  • Operates a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Maintains traffic control around maintenance or construction areas.
  • Cleans streets, roads, canals, and other City facilities.
  • Repairs streets, sidewalks, canals, and other City facilities.
  • Makes or assists with inside repairs such as electrical, heating, air conditioning, or plumbing.
  • Sprays canals, plants, and vegetation.
  • Applies fertilizers, insecticides, and other chemicals to outdoor areas.
  • Assists with ordering supplies, tools, and other materials.
  • Participates in special projects as assigned.
  • Completes reports such as daily activities reports, vehicle logs, and others as required by department assigned.
  • Sweeps/vacuums floors of offices, bathrooms, common areas, and other areas of public buildings and facilities.
  • Mops/waxes floors of offices, bathrooms, common areas, and other areas of public buildings and facilities.
  • Removes trash/garbage from all areas of public buildings and facilities.
  • Cleans and sanitizes surfaces, offices, food preparation areas, eating areas, and other areas of public buildings and facilities.
  • Monitors condition of building and functioning of equipment; reports any need for maintenance or repairs.
  • Maintains supplies necessary for cleaning or stocking of rest rooms or offices; orders supplies and materials as needed.
  • Performs other functions such as raising/lowering flags, setting alarm systems, and securing buildings at close of day, and running errands.
  • Makes minor repairs of fixtures and facilities.
  • Assists in moving furniture or fixtures as requested.
  • Maintains lift stations including cleaning, painting, servicing/replacing components, and adjusting components.
  • Maintains sewer lines including installing, repairing and replacing components.
  • Maintains water lines including installing, repairing, and replacing components.
  • Services water meters including reading, pulling delinquent account meters, removing/replacing meters and related components; turns water on/off as directed.

Minimum Training and Experience

High school diploma or GED; supplemented by up to 6 months previous experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Special Requirement
  • Florida CDL Class B must be obtained within a year.

Marginal Functions

While the following tasks are necessary for the work of the unit, they are not an essential part of the purpose of this position and may also be performed by other unit members.
Assembles fixtures/furniture; performs minor maintenance on equipment.
Assists in inventories.
Performs related duties as directed.
