Description

This position is responsible for providing land surveying services requiring seal and signature of a State of Georgia Registered Land Surveyor (RLS) to include preparing plats and legal descriptions for recording for Henry County DOT as well as providing survey support for the DOT and any other Henry County Departments.

Examples of Duties

Supervises, directs and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals; assists in ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, codes, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures; consults with County Commissioners, County Manager, County Attorney, Public Works Division Director, Engineers, as well as other officials to review and resolve problems, receive direction, and to provide recommendations/guidance; Visits property survey sites; operates, utilizes, and maintains various equipment and tools associated with surveying activities; Coordinates or performs CAD operations for plat preparation; Prepares metes and bounds legal descriptions of right-of-way deeds, quit-claim deeds, and permanent easements suitable for recording; performs administrative functions; prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, performance evaluations, activity reports, legal documents, deeds, or other documents; operates general office equipment; attend meetings, serve on committees, and make personal presentations; performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Ten years of experience as a Georgia Registered Land Surveyor.

Vocational/Technical degree with emphasis in Land Surveying, Hydrology, or Civil Engineering.

Must possess and maintain a valid State of Georgia Registered Land Surveyor (RLS) Certification.

Five years of experience in Boundary Surveys, Construction Staking and Road Survey and Data Collection.

Possession of a valid Georgia drivers license.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Knowledge, Skill, Abilities/ Supplemental Information

Knowledge of the techniques, and principals and procedures related to surveying, construction staking, data collection and courthouse research.

Skill in interpreting field survey darta.

Skill in using survey instruments.

Skill in understanding and interpreting engineering specifications and regulations related assigned projects.

Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with department employees, developers, contractors, utility representatives, and others.

Skill in analyzing problems, conditions and situations and recommending solutions in compliance with established policies.

Skill in oral and written communications.

Skill in working with the general public.

Annual Leave

Annual Leave (vacation) is earned as follows:

  • 0 months – 5 years: 10 days per year
  • 6 years – 15 years: 15 days per year
  • 16 years – 20 years: 20 days per year
  • 21 years and over: 23 days per year

Sick Leave is earned at the rate of one day per month for a total of 12 days per year.

Employees receive nine paid holidays per year.

Insurance benefits are offered to employees working over 32 hours per week.

New employees are eligible for insurance coverage on the first day of the month following one full month of employment.

Retirement is managed by GEBCorp. Employees are required to contribute a percentage of annual salary for the Defined Benefit Program. Also available is an optional 457b Deferred Compensation Program.
