Description

This position is responsible for providing leadership and instruction to other engineers who are engaged in the collection of survey data, reduction of survey notes and all facets of the design of roadway plans. The candidate will be responsible for the development, design and review of construction plans produced within the Henry County Department of Transportation and for the review of plans generated by outside consulting engineering firms.  

Examples of Duties

Supervises engineers as they design roadways, parking lots, recreation facilities, drainage projects, etc. and ensures compliance with engineering design manuals, standards, etc.; prepares plan data for construction staking; receive's field survey data and prepare it for design engineers; writes RFP's for projects, which will be let to bid to engineering consultants; assists in coordinating right-of-way plats and acquisition, utility placements, relocations, and traffic control devices on County projects; schedules pre-construction meetings to discuss project plans and activities with contractors, utility companies, consultants and all other constituents; process's quantity summaries and pay estimates for completeness and accuracy; review's construction plans for build-ability and construct-ability; assists's in processing and issuing documentation of Henry County SPLOST projects; provide engineering support work as required; performs related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university.
 
Eight years of experience in roadway design.
 
Registered Professional Engineer preferred; certified Engineer in training will be considered.
 
Possession of a valid Georgia drivers' license.
 
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Knowledge, Skill, Abilities/ Supplemental Information

Knowledge of the principles and procedures related to road and infrastructure construction; knowledge of the principles and practices related to civil engineering as they apply to surveying, design, construction and inspection of road infrastructure systems; knowledge of applicable state construction standards; knowledge of land surveying, construction techniques and related tools and materials; knowledge of standard drafting and mapping terminology; knowledge of computer and engineering related software packages; knowledge of different mathematical computations; ability to read and interpret engineering plans, plats and legal descriptions; ability to lead a team of engineers and properly carry out work orders; demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills.

Annual Leave

Annual Leave (vacation) is earned as follows:

  • 0 months – 5 years: 10 days per year
  • 6 years – 15 years: 15 days per year
  • 16 years – 20 years: 20 days per year
  • 21 years and over: 23 days per year

Sick Leave is earned at the rate of one day per month for a total of 12 days per year.

Employees receive nine paid holidays per year.

Insurance benefits are offered to employees working over 32 hours per week.

New employees are eligible for insurance coverage on the first day of the month following one full month of employment.
