Job Description

Responsible for assisting in the maintenance the City of Denton Drainage system.

Essential Functions

  • Performs various skilled duties using hand tools such as a pick and shovel to locate underground water sewer lines
  • Sets up street barricades and functions as flagger for traffic
  • Lifts sack cement for placement on truck carrier for field use
  • Repairs water/sewer mains and services
  • Assists with maintenance of drainage channels
  • Works with concrete, grass and restoration of yards
  • Performs functions of job in various weather conditions including temperatures in excess of 100°F and below 32°F

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Core Competencies:
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing in order to be able to understand instructions and prepare daily activity logs
  • Ability to form and maintain effective relationships with coworkers and customers
  • Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance (evaluate per position)
  • Skilled in the use of hand and power tools (i.e. picks, shovels, saws, impact wrench)
  • Ability to follow safety rules and regulations

Conditions of Employment

  • Must have a valid Class "C" Driver's License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class "C" driver's license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 30 days of hire per state law)
  • Must pass a drug test, driver's license check, criminal history background check, and social security verification
  • Must pass a physical examination
  • Must be able to perform physical tasks and lift minimum of one hundred (100) pounds
  • Work schedule Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
  • Must be able to work overtime as needed

The City of Denton Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is designed to assist employees with identifying on or off-the-job personal or behavioral problems adversely affecting their work performance, work productivity, or ability to identify and locate appropriate medical, emotional, physical, financial, legal, or other appropriate resources. The program allows each employee to receive five face-to-face counseling sessions for each calendar year and unlimited access to a toll-free number at no cost to the employee. The EAP program is open to all City of Denton employees, their spouse and dependents, and retirees.

Workers Compensation
Eligibility: Immediately
Details: City provides supplemental pay to augment worker's compensation payments for regular full-time employees. Length of supplemental pay is tied to service time within the City.

Eligibility: Immediately
Details:  Direct deposit is mandatory for all City of Denton employees, and it is available through any financial institution or via pay card.
