The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for a On Call Physician vacancy at the Clallam Bay Corrections Center located in Clallam Bay, WA.  This recruitment will remain open until filled. 

On the doorstep of Olympic National Park which is known for its world class rain forests, mountains, lakes and wild beaches, Clallam Bay offers incredible fishing, beachcombing, and a smorgasbord of activities year-round. 
 
Clallam Bay Corrections Center (CBCC) is 900 bed male facility located on the point of the Olympic Peninsula. It is 50 miles west of Port Angeles and looks out over the Strait of Juan de Fuca at Vancouver Island. This facility houses medium and close custody offenders. CBCC also operates an Intensive Management Unit and is developing step down programming to assist offenders in returning successfully to general population.

Our Physicians treat many people who are disenfranchised from outside medicine and work with an impressive array of untreated maladies and unusual pathology found in our prison population. You will watch the course of disease progression and response to therapy in a way not done in the external population. Physicians at DOC boast about the broad scope of practicing internal medicine while providing direct patient care in a unique setting without the pressure of production based patient care or insurance billing. Responsibilities

  • Takes a leading role in delivery of healthcare services to our patients as well as responsibility for the supervision of advanced practice providers and nursing staff.
  • Collaborates in medical treatment with consulting physicians.
  • Provides emergency treatment on-site and responds appropriately in urgent or emergency situations.
  • Performs diagnostic and treatment of diseases and injuries of patients and develops and updates individualized treatment plans for patients with chronic conditions or special needs.
  • Works in collaboration with others to ensure staff and resources are in place to provide offenders with appropriate and timely medical services consistent with established standards.
  • Creates a work environment that values high ethical standards, emphasizes safe, high quality medical care, nurtures teamwork and encourages activities which lead to continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Fully licensed to practice medicine in the State of Washington (or the ability to obtain prior to employment).
  • Current DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency) registration. 
  • Completion of an approved residency program.
  • Board-certified or board eligible in primary care specialty (family practice, internal medicine) required.
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills and experience in directing medical operations.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to provide education in a manner that enhances one to learn about their disease or chronic condition.
  • Communicate orally and in writing with a variety of individuals ranging from correctional administrator and staff, health care professionals to patient advocates and other laypersons.

Insurance Benefits

Retirement and Deferred Compensation
 
State Employees are members of the Washington Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS).  New employees have the option of two employer contributed retirement programs.  For additional information, check out the Department of Retirement Systems' web site.
 
Employees also have the ability to participate in the Deferred Compensation Program (DCP).  This is a supplemental retirement savings program (similar to an IRA) that allows you control over the amount of pre-tax salary dollars you defer as well as the flexibility to choose between multiple investment options.
 
Vacation (Annual Leave)
 
You begin accruing vacation starting your first month of employment. Since we value your loyalty, the amount of vacation you can accrue increases the longer you work with us. Washington State supports members of the armed forces with 21 days paid military leave per year. Vacation accrues for full-time employees per WAC 357-31-165.
