Basic Function

Supervises the operation and maintenance of the City's water treatment facility in accordance with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations.

Nature & Scope

Responsible for assigning and supervising duties performed in water analysis, plant chemical adjustments and dosages, plant operating and preventative maintenance activities, cleaning, materials purchasing, and special projects. Contacts include local, state and federal regulatory agencies. Duties supervised and responsible for, include:
1. In the absence of Assistant and Chief Plant Operator, the Shift Supervisor will be in charge of the daily plant operations.
2. Meet daily demand of water consumption on a daily basis.
3. Collect and test water samples. Inspect and interpret water analysis reports and alter plant processing accordingly.
4. Inspect equipment and help with the repair of equipment.
5. Train and supervise water plant operators and trainees.
6. Assist in preparation of state and local water analysis reports.
7. Closely monitor system water pressures and volumes for demand and fire protection needs.
8. Provide verbal and written reports to Assistant and Chief Plant Operator.
9. Provide information to citizens concerned about water quality.

Required Skills

Incumbent must possess a Class B Surface Water license issues by the TCEQ with a minimum 5 years experience at a surface water treatment plant and completion of 124 TCEQ approved hours of training or 3 years experience at a surface water treatment plant and completion of 204 TCEQ approved hours of training. Must pass a criminal background check and have a valid Texas driver's license with an acceptable driving record as defined by City policy.  Knowledge and experience commensurate with city size, water volumes, plant and equipment operating complexities, etc. Up-to-date knowledge of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) regulations.

Regular full-time employees are assigned to work at least 40 hours per week, and are eligible for the City's benefit package, subject to the conditions and limitations of each program.
