Description

Work involves operating moderately heavy or complex equipment used in the maintenance and construction of Storm water Facilities. An employee assigned to this classification may work independently, may work as a member of one crew, or may rotate to different crews based on department projects and current workloads.  

Examples of Duties

Operates Mini Excavator and Skid Steer, maintaining and retro-fitting storm water water quality ponds and channels, replacing storm water drain pipes, constructing storm drainage systems.

In the absence of a foreman: trains employees to properly follow County and Department policies, work procedures and safety precautions; monitors work in progress to ensure that established policies and procedures are properly followed; provides guidance and direction to employees in correcting work errors or performance problems and issues verbal reprimands as needed; alerts General Foreman about potential disciplinary problems and gives account for issue.

Occasionally operate Track-Hoe, Front end loader, Bull Dozer, and Rubber Tire Back Hoe; perform daily servicing of assigned vehicles or equipment such as cleaning and checking fluid levels; position may also drive a lowboy when hauling equipment to project work sites; performs related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from High School or GED Equivalent.

One (1) year of experience as an Equipment Operator III or equivalent position.

Level 1 "A" Erosion and Sediment Control Certification.

Possession of a Valid Georgia Class "A" Commercial Driver's License.

 

Knowledge, Skill, Abilities/ Supplemental Information

Basic Knowledge of Vertical Land Surveying; knowledge of Erosion and Sediment Control BMP's; knowledge of work methods and procedures used in the construction and maintenance of Storm water Facilities and storm drain infrastructure; knowledge of the operation and servicing of moderately heavy construction equipment; proficient operation of a variety of complex and moderately heavy equipment; skill in performing all manual labor tasks on assigned crew; skill in interpreting detailed instructions and carrying them out with minimal instruction; skill in safely driving and operating assigned equipment and vehicles.

Annual Leave

Annual Leave (vacation) is earned as follows:

  • 0 months – 5 years: 10 days per year
  • 6 years – 15 years: 15 days per year
  • 16 years – 20 years: 20 days per year
  • 21 years and over: 23 days per year

Sick Leave is earned at the rate of one day per month for a total of 12 days per year.

Employees receive nine paid holidays per year.

Insurance benefits are offered to employees working over 32 hours per week.

New employees are eligible for insurance coverage on the first day of the month following one full month of employment.
