Position Summary

Big Bend Community College (BBCC) is seeking qualified candidates for Associate (part-time) Faculty positions in Biology.­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­  BBCC is a small rural community college located in the sunny, central part of Washington State, and is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities.  Big Bend Community College serves over 5,000 students annually, with an annualized FTE of approximately 2,100, in a 4,600-square-mile service district including 15 communities in Grant and Adams Counties and the Odessa School District in Lincoln County with on-site, online instruction, and interactive classrooms.

This position is responsible to prepare and teach courses in Biology. This position reports to the Dean of Arts & Sciences and works closely with the Math/Science Division Chair as well as other faculty and staff.

Associate Faculty receive quarterly contracts.  Payment is based on $675.91/per lecture credit.
 

Essential Job Duties

 Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and teach assigned courses in accordance with the Master Course Outline and in consultation with a full-time faculty member.
  • Meet the class times as required by the quarterly schedule.
  • Assist students with questions related to the course(s) being taught.
  • Maintain frequent communication with their students.
  • Refer students to appropriate college resources as needed.
  • Maintain and submit grades and attendance reports to college personnel when required.
  • Maintain student course materials for two (2) quarters beyond the quarter of attendance.
  • Submit assessment data in consultation with a full-time faculty member in the department.
  • Assist with development, selection, and/or recommend selection of instructional materials for courses being taught.
  • Post syllabi quarterly to the portal for each course taught.
  • Maintain an educational environment that promotes student learning and success.

Minimum & Desirable Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Biology or closely related field.
  • Previous experience working directly with individuals from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.
 
Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience teaching at a community college within the previous three years.
  • Experience working with non-traditional students.
  • Experience using innovative teaching techniques.
