BASIC POSITION FUNCTION

A Campus Supervisor position ensures student safety before school and during recess and lunch periods. The position plays an integral and vital part during the regular school day and makes a positive contribution to the physical, mental, moral and social development of the child.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Direct appropriate clean-up after lunch
  • Supervise children while they are eating lunch
  • Dismiss children from the lunch area in a regulated manner
  • Supervise and check the various game activities on the playground during play period after lunch to assure students safety
  • Supervise children at other times during the school day when necessary to assure student safety

MINIMUM ENTRANCE QUALIFICATIONS

Demonstrate a capacity and understanding of the scope of responsibility in managing students while at play, displaying sound judgment, patience and attentiveness as it relates to ensuring health and safety of students while on school grounds. 

JOB COMPETENCIES: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Be concerned for the safety and welfare of all children.
  • Be safety-conscious without being "over protective."
  •  Know and follow the established procedures in case of accidents or injuries.
  • Know the hazards of the playground and watch them carefully.
  • Be aware of the total playground area and all pupils using it.
  • Use the "perimeter system"; i.e., circulate around the area assigned to you.
  • Use the whistle sparingly.
  • Do not visit with other aides or the children. Have your attention on the total area.
  • Inspect equipment to ensure it is in safe working order.
  • Many very minor infractions of rules will occur. Do not be over critical; very minor problems may well best be ignored unless continually made by the same individual.
  • Do not place yourself in the position of arguing with the children.
  • Check the restrooms periodically. Children should not be playing in or around them.
  • Report all student discipline issues to the appropriate administrator

RETIREMENT: Employees are covered by an Alternative Retirement Program (APPLE). Contributions are made by both the employee and employer. Contributions are not made into Social Security.
