This recruitment is being used to fill various shifts and on-call Community Health Nurse (CHN) positions in Corrections Health.

Purpose of Position:
Community Health Nurses provide comprehensive community health nursing services directed toward the prevention of disease, and the promotion of health in the community using professional nursing diagnosis, judgment in assessment, evaluation, screening, counseling and referral.
 
Corrections Community Health Nurses function as members of health teams within Corrections Health in a correctional facility (either adult or juvenile). The Nurses work with diverse clients from a variety of backgrounds.
 
Premium pay includes an additional:

  • $1.75 - Corrections Health Clinic Pay
  • $2.00 - Swing Shift Pay
  • $5.00 - Graveyard Shift Pay
  • $3.00 - Weekend Shift Pay

To Qualify

Required Minimum Qualifications/Transferable Skills*:

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate and valid Oregon driver's license
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate and valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse issued by the State of Oregon
  • Possession of current American Heart Association BLS/CPR card, or ability to obtain BLS/CPR within 30 days of hire
  • A Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program; OR
  • An Associate's degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program and two years of registered nurse level experience is required
Preferred Special Qualifications/Transferable Skills*:
  • Working knowledge of principles, practices and procedures of clinic patient care
  • Ability to anticipate patient and provider needs
  • Working knowledge in how to access, interpret and apply computerized client data information
  • Working knowledge of programs and services available to clients
  • Ability to effectively screen and gather required information in a professional, culturally competent and customer service oriented manner
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Ability to be flexible and manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to maintain composure and work objectively with clients who may be hostile or verbally abusive

Screening and Evaluation

The Selection Process: We expect to evaluate candidates as follows:
  1. Application review: We will review the education and work experience sections of the applications to identify the candidates who meet the minimum qualifications as stated in this announcement. We may conduct a more thorough review of all remaining applications to identify the most qualified candidates.
  2. Supplemental question review: Your responses will be provided to a team of subject matter experts who will not have access to the remainder of your application. Respond to each of the questions individually and completely, while explaining relevant experience (paid or unpaid) and training related to each item. The quality, complexity, and accomplishments that you provide will determine whether your application is advanced further in the recruitment process.
  3. Phone screen.
  4. Oral exam: A scored interview.
  5. Consideration of top candidates: We will consider qualified candidates in order of rank and score from the list of eligible candidates. This may include panel interview(s), a hiring interview, and/or additional testing to determine the best candidates for a position.
  6. Background check and reference checks: All finalists must pass a thorough background and reference check.

Type of Position: This hourly union-represented position is eligible for overtime.
