Overview

THIS WORK MATTERS!

Corrections Health is hiring a .8 FTE Physician for the Multnomah County Inverness Jail in Northeast Portland.

Corrections Health is a part of Multnomah County Health Department.  It provides medical, dental and mental health care services at the county's two adult jails and one juvenile detention facility. It provides service 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The adult jails and youth detention center have a combined capacity of about 1,400.  Corrections Health serves 35,000+ inmates and youth yearly. Adult inmates' average length of stay in jail is about 13 days.  Many detainees have lengths of stay of a few days; some are sentenced for up to one year.  The most common health needs facing inmates and youth are mental health diagnoses, chronic diseases, and addiction to alcohol and drugs.

Corrections Health is seeking on-call physicians who are comfortable with caring for the medically indigent, enthused about cross-cultural medicine, and oriented toward preventive health. Experience with the public safety system, addicted population, multi-system health care needs and unstable chronic diseases are desirable.

As a Physician in Corrections Health you will:

  • Be responsible for the provision of direct patient care to incarcerated persons in Multnomah County
  • Provide medical consultation to the nurses, nurse practitioners and physician assistants
  • Work with the Medical Director to assure protocols, standards of care and health department guidelines are incorporated into care delivery

Premium pay includes an additional:

  • 5% - Corrections Health Clinic Pay
