Position Information

SELF-HELP INTERNSHIP FOR LAW AND PARALEGAL STUDENTS

We are looking for qualified candidates to join our Self-Help team. This is a great experience where students will get hands-on training in a wide array of court cases. Law and paralegal students must apply directly to this posting for consideration.  Students may be pre-screened and invited to apply directly to this posting as part of recruitment at law schools and paralegal schools (e.g. On-Campus interview programs).

*Please note, opportunities may not be immediately available at the time an application is submitted.

Placement Locations
Any of the Orange County Superior Court Self-Help locations.

Note
Internships are unpaid. If you are receiving school credit for your internship, we can assist you in completing your school's form upon us offering and you accepting an internship position.

Example of Duties
As an intern of the Self-Help Center, you will work under the close supervision of a Self-Help Attorney to assist self-represented litigants by providing form and procedural legal information.  You will have the opportunity to triage customers at the front windows; participate in self-help workshops; conduct document reviews; and help litigants referred to the Self-Help Center by judicial officers.  You will also get the opportunity to complete assigned projects relating to Self-Help services.

The location of the position will vary.  We have five Self-Help Centers located at the various Orange County Superior Courts; all are within Orange County, California.  We encourage law students and paralegal students to apply for consideration.  The hours for each selected intern will vary based on the Self-Help Center's need and the student's availability.

Please note, in order to avoid any appearance of impropriety or favoritism, during the internship, interns are prohibited from engaging in outside activities that would conflict with their duties as interns, or pose a conflict of interest for the court.  If you have any questions about these requirements, please contact the Self-Help Coordinating Attorney, Bethany Taylor, at btaylor@occourts.org.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in law school or paralegal program.
