Purpose

THIS IS A VOLUNTEER, UNPAID POSITION.
Jefferson County Human Services Children, Youth and Families Division works with families within the Child Welfare system by providing and setting up services to allow the families to Thrive in Jeffco.

We are looking for on-going volunteers who are interested in supporting families within Child Welfare by providing transportation to program appointments and/or assist with childcare for the children they are transporting during these appointments.

Other opportunities may be available for short term, short notice assistance located in the Golden office.

Essential Duties

As an on-going volunteer for the Children, Youth, and Families Division, you will be picking up children in the community and transporting them to the Jefferson County Campus for program appointments - the majority of the transportation will be in the Denver Metro area, however, some families could be as far as Greeley or Colorado Springs. Our goal is to match a Volunteer with a family based on location, preferred ages, and vehicle size.  This will allow rapport and trust to be built between the volunteer and the family.

In-person and online training will be provided, as well as on-going support from a Casework Supervisor.

The Volunteer must use their own vehicle and valid insurance; however, we will provide mileage reimbursement and, if necessary, a car seat.

Depending on the location and age of the children, the volunteer can expect the time commitment to be an average of 3 hours, twice a week between the hours of 7 am to 7 pm.

We are asking for at least a 6 month commitment.

Qualifications

Volunteers must:

  • Be 21 years of age or older and possess a valid driver's license.
  • Have a high school diploma or a GED.
  • Have their own reliable transportation and proof of insurance.
  • Pass an oral interview, criminal background investigation, and motor vehicle record review. Must have a valid driver's license. If from out of state, a valid Colorado driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of joining the team; must not have any major violations, nor more than one DUI, DWI, DWAI conviction in the past three years.
  • Have an open, non-judgmental attitude toward the families within the child welfare program.  Genuine concerns and empathy for the children are necessary qualities.
