About the Position

Do you have a passion for writing and multimedia communications?  Be a part of implementing the County Of San Luis Obispo's communication plan!

The marketing and communications intern will help implement the County's communications plan, with a special emphasis on graphic design and branding, social media management, public relations writing and editing, and strategic planning, and research.

Learning Opportunities
• Implement the County's Social Media Strategy, including posting, scheduling, monitoring and reporting. 
• Assist in the strategic development of marketing and communications plans. 
• Conduct market research, surveys, focus groups and/or interviews for various projects.
• Write news releases, media alerts and media pitches.
• Design flyers, graphics and other marketing materials. 
• Collaborate with staff on new ideas, directions and tools for marketing and communications.
• Update the organization's website regularly.
• Other duties as assigned.

This is an UNPAID internship.  To be eligible you must be currently enrolled in a college or university and be willing to intern for a minimum of 6-months.

The Ideal Candidate

Individuals who have the following education, skills and experience will be most competitive:

• Background in marketing, communication, graphic design or other related disciplines
• Strong oral and written communications skills
• Knowledge and understanding of the basic principles of design
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
• Video production and editing experience (familiarity with Final Cut Pro is a plus)
• Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, etc.)
• Familiarity with social media management for organizations
• Organized, with an ability to prioritize time-sensitive assignments
• Creative and flexible
