Position Overview_Updated- Maricopa

This position is responsible for specialized and skilled maintenance, installation, and repair of County facilities, equipment, and offices. Depending on area of certification and assignment, may be responsible for facility renovations, HVAC repair and maintenance, repair and maintenance of doors, gates, and fixtures, preparing and painting walls and ceilings, and the maintenance and replacement of various plumbing equipment and fixtures; maintenance of all commercial Food Services equipment, hydraulic systems, and pneumatic devices.
 
Consequence of error for this position may be substantial as equipment breakdown may cause loss of service for machines that jail facilities use on a daily basis to prepare and provide meals for inmates. This may result in lawsuits which equate to monetary losses to both MCSO and the County.
 

Position Qualifications_Updated- Maricopa

Minimum education and/or experience:
High school diploma or GED and three (3) years' journey level experience working on commercial food services equipment and/or refrigeration systems. Post-secondary education such as completion of an apprenticeship program or vocational education in HVAC or Hydraulics and Pneumatics may substitute for up to one (1) year of the experience requirement.  
 
Specialized training, certifications, and/or other special requirements:
Training with the exception of Arizona driver's license to be provided on-the-job: FEMA NIMS – IS100 AND 700; OSHA training; ADP payroll training; PREA training.  Must possess, or have the ability to obtain by the time of hire, a valid Arizona driver's license.  Prior to hiring, the Sheriff's Office requires that all candidates successfully pass a polygraph examination and an extensive background review.
 
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Must have a working knowledge of commercial food service equipment, hydraulic systems, and their applications; ability to read and understand schematics; working knowledge of pneumatic devices such as control valves, cylinders, and switching devices; knowledge of OSHA safety regulations.
 
Working conditions:
Must be available all hours and shifts as deemed necessary by the Food Services Maintenance Supervisor, in order to maintain equipment.

Essential Job Tasks_Updated- Maricopa

Responsible for maintaining food service equipment that provides food to all jail facilities at peak mechanical performance. Working knowledge of commercial food service equipment to include: machines that are used in the food preparation area and the holding area. Ability to adapt to changing situations; able to problem solve with limited supervision. Perform preventative maintenance as well as heavy maintenance; daily safety checks on equipment, and daily visual inspections for loose hardware and/or belts. Diagnose mechanical problems at a component board level; troubleshoot three-phase control circuits; diagnose program inverters; read and understand schematics, digital and three-phase; and diagnose circuit boards. Maintain an essential parts inventory; a systematic and secure tool inventory. Log and track repairs for Food Services. Maintain a preventative maintenance schedule for all Food Services equipment. Provide customer service as main contact for all outside contractors; contact all vendors that supply the parts inventory for the Food Service machinery. Maintain duct work for each applicable machine. Participate in application of a comprehensive safety plan, including knowledge of OSHA safety regulations as they apply. Assist with operation of equipment used in the Food Factory as needed. Must be available all hours and shifts as deemed necessary by the Food Services Manager to ensure plant operation. Maintain awareness of the general care, custody, and control of inmates at all times to ensure the safety of both staff and other inmates. Be present at work site to perform assigned tasks at the times and dates scheduled by the supervisor.

Holidays and Leave
Maricopa County observes ten paid holidays per year. Most County employees accrue vacation (starting at three weeks per year for full-time employees) and sick leave (starting at one hour for every 30 hours worked for all employees). Employees also receive paid leave for other needs such as jury duty, civic duty, and bereavement. 

Medical, Prescription, Behavioral Health, Dental, Vision, and Flexible Spending Accounts
We understand how important health, oral hygiene and vision are to maintaining a good quality of life. Because life sometimes takes unexpected turns, the County offers life insurance coverage to help employees and their loved ones in the event of death.  Basic life and basic accidental death & dismemberment insurance equivalent to one times an employee's annual base salary is provided at no cost, with the option for employees to purchase additional coverage including spouse and child life insurance. Disability insurance is available to replace a portion of an employee's salary should they experience a short-term illness or injury.

Retirement
Eligible employees are covered by one of several State-sponsored retirement pension plans, including the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) and the Public Safety Personnel Retirement System (PSPRS).  Additionally, there's the option to contribute to a 457b deferred compensation retirement savings plan that provides employees with a variety of investment opportunities.  For those employees who retire from the County and from their retirement system, and have accrued 1,000 or more hours of sick leave, the County makes a $10,000 contribution to a Post-Employment Health Plan set up on their behalf to be used for payment of eligible out-of-pocket healthcare expenses.
