Job Description...

The Michigan School for the Deaf provides educational and residential programs and services for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.  This position functions as the Director of the residential component on the MSD campus.  The position is responsible to oversee and direct the performance of a variety of professional youth residential director activities designed to provide training for students in the residential program.  The position oversees and directs the handling of training and services pertaining to the day-to-day activities of students housed in the deaf education programs in the afternoon, generates and carries out policy, oversees staff who provide direct care to the student, and serves on the staff team working to create a healthy environment to bring about positive changes in the behaviors, attitudes, and values of students in the residential program.  This position will also work with MSD administration to obtain accreditation for Residential Facilities via CEASD for the residential program.

Required Education and Experience

Education
Possession of a master's degree in social work, psychology, education, guidance and counseling, sociology, or criminal justice.

Experience
Two years of professional experience in youth services work equivalent to the experienced (P11) level.

Leave Time

Full time employees receive between 15 and 35 vacation leave days per year. Employees also receive 13 sick days per year, and employees receive 8 hours of leave to participate in certain school functions or community activities. Employees may also qualify for up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave for certain family or medical situations.

State employees receive 12 scheduled holidays each year, which include New Years Eve Day and New Years Day, Christmas Eve Day and Christmas Day, Memorial Day, and Veterans Day just to name a few.

Retirement

Employees receive a minimum 4% state contribution toward their retirement fund. If an employee elects to contribute more, the state will match that percentage (up to 3%).
