Job Summary

The City of Greenville's Recreation and Parks Department is seeking a motivated and knowledgeable intern to join their team and gain valuable, hands-on work experience. This is an internship with an opportunity to expand your experience managing natural areas and open space as it relates to programming, conservation, facility maintenance, and research.

Interns will explore multiple areas of park operations as it pertains to open space, natural area, and nature center management, these areas include: Programming, research, facility maintenance, conservation, and administrative duties with a focus based on students interests and their discipline of study. Duties include, but are not limited to: Design and deliver programming elements, collect visitor data (demographics and visitors interests), assisting with trail maintenance, including maintaining buffers, managing fishing spots, enhancing viewscapes, and improving tread, identify common native and invasive species within park and utilize proper control methods. A detailed list of duties can be provided upon request. Internships also require weekly writing assignments and the completion of an appropriate capstone project.

Education:
Must be currently enrolled as a full time student at an accredited college or university majoring in Recreation and Leisure Studies, Education, Biology, or closely related field. Requires creativity, strong interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills and the ability to work independently to develop and implement programs.


Applications will be reviewed to ensure applicants meet the minimum requirements. Applicants who meet minimum requirements will be referred to River Park North staff who will contact applicants who best meet the requirements and needs of the position. 

This is an unpaid internship position.  Interns will be required to work a significant amount of weekends and some evenings.  Must have a flexible schedule to qualify. 

If selected, applicants must show proof of student status and course of study.
