 The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides nursing care through the application of policies, procedures, standards and protocols within the LPN scope of practice, training and competency under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.  Provides total patient care for an assigned group of prisoners within the LPN scope of practice and competency.  Administers medications and treatments as ordered.  Keeps the RN informed of prisoner condition changes and response to treatment. Documents in Electronic Health Record (EHR) as instructed. Works with maximum security prisoners 100% of on-duty time. This role is subject to random drug and alcohol screening. Actively participates in meetings and sub committees.

Duane Waters Health Center has six 12 hour shifts and one 8 hour shift for the 80 hours bi-weekly.  This schedule includes every other weekend.

Leave Time

Full time employees receive between 15 and 35 vacation leave days per year. Employees also receive 13 sick days per year, and employees receive 8 hours of leave to participate in certain school functions or community activities. Employees may also qualify for up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave for certain family or medical situations.


Holidays

State employees receive 12 scheduled holidays each year, which include New Years Eve Day and New Years Day, Christmas Eve Day and Christmas Day, Memorial Day, and Veterans Day just to name a few.

Retirement

Employees receive a minimum 4% state contribution toward their retirement fund. If an employee elects to contribute more, the state will match that percentage (up to 3%).
