San Diego Superior Court is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Interpreter (Arabic Option).  The eligible list resulting from this recruitment may be used to fill current and future Interpreter (Arabic Option) vacancies as they occur.
 
There is currently one (1) full-time position open for the Interpreter (Arabic Option) in the "All Court Floater" pool.  Interpreters in "All Court Floater" assignments must be available to work and provide coverage in all Superior Court locations:  the Central Division, with four courthouses in downtown San Diego, as well as the Juvenile Court and Kearny Mesa Branch in the Kearny Mesa area; the North County Division in Vista; the East County Division in El Cajon; and the South County Division in Chula Vista.

JOB SUMMARY
 
Interpreters provide simultaneous and consecutive interpreting services during court proceedings as parties and witnesses testify, or when attorneys present oral arguments and motions.  Interpreters may also assist court staff with interpreting in a customer service setting, and may provide sight translations, as needed.  Interpreters work in a courtroom or office setting and have significant contact with judges, court staff, attorneys, and the public.
 
SALARY RATE
 
$73,070.40 - $82,326.40 annually.  The starting hourly salary for Interpreters is currently set at $36.21 (approximately $75,316.80 annually).
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
 
Interested individuals must possess at the time of application a valid and current certification as a "Certified Court Interpreter" in Arabic, as issued by the Judicial Council of California.  Applicants who do not have the Judicial Council interpreter certification will not be considered.

EVALUATION AND SELECTION FACTORS
 
Factors evaluated in the selection process may include the ability to accurately provide simultaneous and consecutive interpreting services in Arabic; establish and maintain effective working relationships with court staff and law enforcement personnel; maintain confidentiality of information; and maintain a neutral, non-bias position when providing interpreting services.
 
 
SELECTION PROCESS
 
Qualified candidates will be placed on the Interpreter (Arabic Option) eligible list based on an evaluation of the information contained in the online application.
