About Us

The Denver Police Department (DPD) – Volunteers In Police Services (VIPS) is now accepting applications for 2017-2018 unpaid Internships and Volunteers within the DPD.
 
Working with a task or field supervisor, students and volunteers will have the opportunity to learn and gain a better understanding of the Law Enforcement Field by participating and getting hands on experience assisting in these various areas: Training Scenario Role Playing, Administrative/clerical support,  Victim Advocacy Support Services, Translation, Social Media, Information Desk Help, COP Shops, Cleaning and gassing police vehicles, Fingerprinting.

Internship:  The Internship is intended for college students who are exploring career fields and/or whose degree requires an internship.   These follow the academic calendar – Please see below for the following internship durations and application deadlines:

  • Fall (early August – mid December) – Application deadline June 30th
  • Spring (early January – late May) – Application deadline November 30th
  • Summer (early June – early August) – Application deadline March 31st
Interns can choose to stay longer with supervisor and VIPS approval.   Academic fields recommended for participants in the study areas of Social Work, Human Services, Business, Non-Profit, Public Service, Criminal Justice, Marketing, Paralegal, Legal.  NOTE: Internships are unpaid positions. We are able to work with your school for school credit. 

About You

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age and have a minimum of a High School Diploma or GED
  • Interns: Able to commit to a minimum 4 months (semester long) and must be enrolled in current college or university requiring a field placement/internship
  • Volunteers: Able to commit to a minimum 30 hours in one calendar year

Application Instructions:  All interested interns and volunteers should apply to this position and MUST attach the following:
  • Copy of your driver's license
  • Signed Certification, Authorization and Waiver regarding Background Check and Completed "New Volunteer Identification Card Request" Form (click here to download. Fill out all 3 pages, upload, and attach)

  • Internship applicants must also include:
    • Copy of your transcripts (unofficial is ok to submit)
    • Copy of the Syllabus (or something to describes purpose/requirements  of internship)

In addition to attaching the required documents noted above, when completing the online application, please include three (3) personal references and at least seven (7) years of employment history. If you have not been employed for seven years, please provide your complete employment history.
