Gallery Guide Volunteer
 
The Ontario Museum of History & Art is excited to debut its new team of volunteer Gallery Guides for exhibits in the Fall of 2016. What is a Gallery Guide? Gallery Guides are friendly, engaging, trained volunteers that greet visitors, provide exhibit information, and have fun conversations about the artwork and artifacts in the Museum's galleries. Gallery Guides are vital in forging bonds between the Museum and the community. Open to high school students and adults, this is the perfect volunteer position for individuals that are enthusiastic, enjoy working with people, and love sharing their passion for art, history, and culture. The time commitment is one to three Saturdays a month from 2 PM to 4 PM.

This is a volunteer position with the City of Ontario. The City provides no compensation for the services performed by volunteers. Volunteers are not entitled to any benefits from the City, including but not limited to Worker's Compensation benefits.

Examples of Essential Functions

 

  • Assists members of City staff by performing basic administrative and technical assignments.
     
  • Assists with scheduling, set-up, and tear-down of special events.
     
  • Conducts building tours.
     
  • Operates personal computers, printers, and other office equipment.
     
  • Responds to requests for information and general questions from the public.
     
  • Assists with or provides instruction for educational classes.

Qualification Guidelines


Requirements

Volunteers under the age of 18 must have their parent or guardian's permission to volunteer.  

Time commitment of one to three Saturdays a month from 2PM to 4PM

Supplemental Information



The Museum's first Gallery Guide training will take place on Saturday, October 1, 2016 from 10 AM to 12 PM. Reservations are required for the free training.

This is a volunteer (unpaid) position with the City of Ontario. As such, the City of Ontario's General Process for employment does not apply to this position. All volunteers are required to pass a criminal background check. Criminal arrest and/or conviction information as well as subsequent arrest notifications will be obtained from the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and/or Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

I have agreed to volunteer my services to the City of Ontario. I do so fully aware of all risk associated with the work I will be assigned. I assume the responsibility of physical fitness and ability to perform the volunteer work that is assigned to me by the City of Ontario. If I do not feel that I am capable of performing the work assigned to me, I assume responsibility of informing the City. I understand that the City accepts my services with the knowledge that my service is at the sole discretion of the City. I agree that the City may at any time, for whatever reason, decide to change the duties assigned to me, transfer me to a different assignment or terminate my relationship with the City. I further understand that the City provides no compensation for my services and that I am not entitled to any benefits from the City, including but not limited to Worker's Compensation benefits. I acknowledge that City records are strictly confidential and are disclosed only to authorized personnel with supervisor approval. I understand that I must protect each user's right to privacy with respect to information sought or received, and materials consulted, borrowed, or acquired, insofar as the public nature of the City facilities permit. I understand that violating this confidentiality policy will result in possible dismissal. In consideration for being allowed to provide these services I hereby release the City of Ontario, its agents, employees and officers from liability for any injuries and damages I may suffer while performing these services.
