Description

This position is responsible for the daily supervision of a Paving, Milling and Pothole Patching crew. Related duties include pavement evaluations to determine an annual resurfacing schedule, inspecting resurfacing, FDR projects, turn lane projects and roads repairs by developers. 

The work consists of related plan review and inspection coordination at different phases of the construction process.  

This position will be posted until a sufficient amount of qualified applications are received.

Examples of Duties

Supervises asphalt concrete paving by DOT and contractor forces; monitors compliance of contractors to the County's policies and Construction Standards as well as those of Georgia Department of Transportation where applicable; cuts cores to determine asphalt thickness and underlying material before setting up a budget for upcoming roads to be resurfaced; schedules pre-construction meetings to discuss project plans and activities with contractors, consultants, utility companies, county staff and others, as needed; develop a list of roads and a budget to send to Georgia Department of Transportation for LMIG funding each year; keeps a daily spreadsheet for LMIG projects to summarize the amount spent on each road; annually rate the pavement condition of all paved roads within Henry County; assists Department Head in meeting with commissioners to determine which roads they would like to resurface using the budget and road ratings; work closely with asphalt plant personnel to set up the amount of asphalt needed daily and which project it will be used on; submit roads to approved testing firms for Full Depth Reclamation mix designs. Work closely with testing firms while field testing takes place on FDR and resurfacing projects; details specifications for FDR, resurfacing, dump truck hauling, crack sealing and triple surface treatment work; approves invoices for materials used on assigned projects; able to run various paving equipment; meets with citizens regarding when roads will be resurfaced or if there are issues with resurfacing projects; serves in DOT crew management in the absence of the Construction Supervisor; performs related duties as required.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Associates Degree in Engineering or a related field.
 
Ten Years of experience in performing related work.
 
Possession of a valid Georgia driver's license.
 
Any equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience is acceptable.

Knowledge, Skill, Abilities/ Supplemental Information

Knowledge of the techniques, principles and procedures related to roadway and other construction; knowledge of applicable Georgia Department of Transportation, County and Henry County Department of Transportation policies, standards and procedures regarding infrastructure construction for roadways; skill in hot mix asphalt placement; skill in roadway testing; skill in understanding and interpreting engineering specifications, plans and regulations related to assigned projects; skill in reading road design drawings, engineering plans and specifications; skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with department employees, developers, contractors, utility representatives and others; skill in analyzing problems, conditions and situations and recommending solutions in compliance with established policies; effective oral and written communications skills and the ability to deal effectively with the general public; knowledge of county policies, regulations, standards, pertaining to utilities.

Annual Leave

Annual Leave (vacation) is earned as follows:

  • 0 months – 5 years: 10 days per year
  • 6 years – 15 years: 15 days per year
  • 16 years – 20 years: 20 days per year
  • 21 years and over: 23 days per year

Sick Leave is earned at the rate of one day per month for a total of 12 days per year.

Employees receive nine paid holidays per year.

Insurance benefits are offered to employees working over 32 hours per week.

New employees are eligible for insurance coverage on the first day of the month following one full month of employment.
