Description

The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission is currently seeking to fill positions for a Seasonal Park Ranger and Non-Native Invasive Plant Program Field Coordinator. 

Seasonal Park Ranger  for weekend work $11.50-$14.00 (Depending on experience)
The M-NCPPC Park Ranger Office in Prince George's County is seeking a seasonal Park Ranger who will work weekends and select weekdays as needed. This position will provide Special Event and Park Operations support, County-Wide park patrols and visitor services, and permit check-in and enforcement.  

The employee will be required to wear an issued dress uniform and operate vehicles and other equipment as needed.  The work schedule for this position will include weekends, some weekend evenings and periodic weekdays.  Applicants should have good driving record, good references, and positive work habits that include being reliable, honest, and hardworking.  Good communication and people skills are required.   The position will entail working outdoors in varying weather conditions. Weekly work schedule will be 16 +/- hours depending on work assignments.
 
Hourly rate:  $11.50-$14/hour based on experience.

Non-Native Invasive Plant Field Coordinator $12-$15/hr. (Depending on Experience)
This part time position will assist with coordination of the non-native invasive plant program for Prince George's County Department of Parks and Recreation.  The selected candidate must have strong knowledge of invasive plant species and current management strategies; have a Maryland Department of Agriculture pesticide applicator registration; possess good communication and leadership skills; be proficient with Microsoft Excel; and be able to carry 25 lbs or more for extended periods of time in the field. 
 
Job duties include developing and implementing a long term invasive program plan for assigned areas of the County, prioritizing park sites and species in the County, manually removing and chemically treating invasive plant species on park property, and recruiting, coordinating, and training volunteers.  The program coordinator is responsible for documenting herbicide usage and volunteer hours.  Each focal site and species shall be monitored and studied for success. The program coordinator may provide guidance to seasonal staff.
 
This position has a maximum of 1560 hours a year (30 hours/week).  Weekend work will be required.  The selected candidate can expect to work in adverse weather conditions and be exposed outdoor hazards such as poison ivy, biting and stinging insects, etc. 
 

Minimum Qualifications

College degree in appropriate field together with progressively responsible management supervisory, and administrative experience which is equal to the management and supervision of a major program or facility; or an equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates the applicant's ability to direct and be responsible for a major program and/or facility under a minimum amount of supervision.
