Description

The City of Norfolk's Department of General Services, Division of Parking is seeking to hire several part-time Parking Attendants.  Responsibilities include auditing and verifying the collection or receiving of fees, keeping records of  transactions, and operating office equipment throughout various Norfolk parking garages and lots.

Essential Functions

 Department Hiring Wage:  $8.33/hour

Essential functions include but are not limited to:

  • Collects fees, operates cash terminals, and issues receipts;
  • Responds to complaints or refers to appropriate staff for resolution;
  • Provides directions and information to patrons;
  • Reconciles accounts and maintains accounts receivables;
  • Operates calculators and answers telephone calls and;
  • Performs other administrative duties as assigned.

Education/Experience

Requires equivalent to graduation from high school or any equivalent combination of training and experience that would provide one with the knowledge and ability to  perform the essential functions of the position. 

The selected candidate will provide excellent customer service and possess the ability to read, write, compute figures, handle and record cash transactions, and the ability to work in the elements of nature. 

Previous customer service and cash handling experience preferred.

Additional Information & Requirements

Must possess a valid driver's license.  Must have favorable background check results and pass drug screening tests. 

Parking Attendants are required to work on holidays. Work also requires sitting, walking, occasional lifting (no more than 15 to 20 lbs.) and climbing steps.  Work may require standing for long periods of time in order to direct traffic and collect parking fees. Requires the ability to work closely with the public and fellow employees. 

Work Hours: Monday - Friday 6:30 am - 3:00 am next day; Rotation schedule and sometimes longer working hours. Typically 19.5 hours/week; hours may change seasonally.

Work Location: Various locations – Garages and Open Lots.

    If you are hired October 5, 2010 or after to a position with City of Norfolk Retirement System benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit.  This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
