For evaluation purposes, acceptable qualifying experience for all positions must have been in a paid capacity unless noted otherwise in the minimum qualifications for the posted position.

Additionally, 30+ hours per week will be counted as full-time employment and will receive full credit for the amount of time employed.  A minimum of 15 through 29 work hours per week will be counted as part-time employment and will receive half credit for the amount of time employed.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION:  

  • High school diploma or GED.
EXPERIENCE: 
  • Five (5) years of experience in the installation, repair, maintenance and troubleshooting of computer electronics and/or communications equipment and systems.
  • Configuration and programming of radio and/or computer electronics equipment.
  • Experience with IP and Circuit bases networks.
  • Experience with electronic and test equipment including, but not limited to digital multi-meters, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, wattmeters, and network analyzer.
EQUIVALENCY(IES):
  • An associate's degree or higher in electronics, engineering, computer science. Or computer related field plus three (3) years of the required experience will meet the education and experience requirements.
LICENSE(S) and/or CERTIFICATION(S):
  • Valid driver's license with good driving record.
OTHER REQUIREMENT(S):
  • Must pass extensive (Federal Bureau of Investigation) background check.
  • No felony or class A misdemeanor convictions.
  • No class B misdemeanor conviction within the last ten (10) years.
  • Must have or obtain FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License (GROL) or CompTIA A+ certification within probationary period.
  • Some positions require availability for twenty-four/seven (24/7) emergency call-out.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITY(IES):
  • Knowledge of AC/DC electronics theory.
  • Knowledge of FCC rules and regulations regarding the licensing and use of two-way radio equipment for public safety and public works entities.
  • Microsoft Office Skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio).
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Good teamwork, leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prepare and present reports and diagrams.
  • Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds.
PREFERENCE(S):
  • For some positions; must obtain an APCO Public Safety Radio Technician, a FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License (GROL) and/or Comp TIA A+ certification within the probationary period.
Communications and Information Services – Mobile Technology Center:  Combined experience should include repair and maintenance of two-way radio subscribers such as: mobile, portable and base station radios, Mobile Data Computers (MDCSs) and/or tablet computers; familiarity with Windows XP/7/8, tablet operating systems, Digital Video Records (DVR), Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) and/or emergency vehicle lighting and siren systems. Experience with radio programming, template building (Codeplug, Mission Plan), computer configuration and integration preferred.
 
Communication and Information Services – Radio Network Group:  Experience must include repair and maintenance of two-way radio infrastructure equipment such as; site repeaters, trunked and conventional radio system infrastructure in analog and digital. Radio experience with Project 25 radio technology in conventional and trunked modes is preferred. Candidate must have familiarity with site communications transport theory such as microwave, multiplexers and network technology. Must be available for twenty-four/seven (24/7) emergency call out.
