Do you have experience or a passion for working with individuals with disabilities? If you answered yes, the Montgomery County Department of Parks has an exciting year-round seasonal employment opportunity for you!

Selected candidates must maintain confidentiality regarding disability, medical and personal information. You must be willing to actively participate in all program activities, assist with the adaptation of activities and help facilitate social interaction. Effectively communicating with supervisors, staff, participants and parents/guardians is extremely important. All selected candidates must provide excellent customer service.

PLEASE NOTE: All applicants interested would be assigned to a facility and work as a facility staff team member until an accommodation is requested.

Program Access (Inclusion) Position Locations:

Opportunities are available at various Northern (Germantown, Boyds, Clarksburg, etc.) and Southern (Rockville, Wheaton, Silver Spring, etc.) Area locations throughout Montgomery County. Program locations and assignments are subject to change based on program needs.

The following opportunities are available:

Support Staff Aide (Salary dependent on experience/education)
Provide assistance to individuals with mild disabilities to be included in recreational programs with their non-disabled peers. Actively participates in all program activities, assists with the adaptation of activities and helps to facilitate social interactions. Must have a desire and interest in working with persons with disabilities. Minimal related experience required. Minimum age 16.

Support Staff I (Salary dependent on experience/education)
Provides assistance to individuals with mild/moderate disabilities to be included in recreational programs with their non-disabled peers. Actively participates in all program activities, assists with the adaptation of activities and helps to facilitate social interactions. Minimum age 18. Requires high school diploma and one year experience working with persons with disabilities or two or more years of work related disability experience.

Support Staff II (Salary dependent on experience/education)
Provides assistance to individuals with moderate/severe disabilities to be included in recreational programs with their non-disabled peers. Maintains documentation and implements behavior plans as needed. Minimum age 19. Requires two years of college in related field and one year experience working with persons with disabilities or four or more years of related disability experience.

Support Staff III (Salary dependent on experience/education)
Provides assistance to individuals with moderate/severe disabilities to be included in recreational programs with their non-disabled peers. Assists in development of behavior management plans; implements behavior management plans and provides documentation as required. Conducts sensitivity awareness activities and training on site as required. Requires four years of college in related field or two years of college plus three years of experience working with persons with disabilities or six or more years of related disability experience.

Signing Support Staff/SLI-II  (Salary dependent on experience/education)
Ability to interpret preschool classes for young children such as tumbling, mom & tot classes, etc. Provides assistance to individuals with mild/moderate disabilities to be included in recreational programs with their non-disabled peers. Actively participates in all program activities, assists with the adaptation of activities and helps to facilitate social interactions. Must be 16 years of age and have 1 year minimum of experience in sign language.  You will be formally assessed.
 
Signing Support Staff/SLI-III (Salary dependent on experience/education)
Ability to interpret with intermediate signing skill; ability to interpret the same as SLI. Provides assistance to individuals with mild/moderate disabilities to be included in recreational programs with their non-disabled peers. Actively participates in all program activities, assists with the adaptation of activities and helps to facilitate social interactions. Must have 2+ years of training and/or experience interpreting. You will be formally assessed.

Signing Support Staff/SLI-VSigning Support Staff/SLI-V (Salary dependent on experience/education)
Ability to interpret in all areas proficiently. Must have 6+ years of experience and specialized education and training in skill area or college graduate with 2+ years of teaching in specific skill area.  You will be formally assessed.

Minimum Qualifications

College degree in appropriate field is desirable, and limited supervision and management experience is necessary for jobs involved in assisting in the management and supervision of a facility or supervising a small program; or an equivalent combination of education and experience equal to entry-level skills and abilities in providing assistance to career staff in supervising and managing a program or facility.

Supplemental Information

All selected applicants must attend mandatory trainings; CPR, First Aid and AED, Inclusion/Program Access Orientation, Disability Characteristics, Behavior Management techniques, Documentation & Communication, and other designated trainings.

These positions are seasonal and do not include a benefits package. A complete background investigation will be completed prior to hire.

Work may be indoors or outdoors.

This position does not qualify for career benefits.
